It’s another quiet day on the football front so a chance for us to get ahead of the game and start to narrow down the field for the weekend’s bets.
The Premier League fixtures have thrown up a Merseyside Derby and a London Derby for us to enjoy.
Liverpool host Everton in the early kick-off and it’s hard to see past a win for the Reds at on current form. In the tea-time kick-off it’s Chelsea v Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have managed to string three wins together for the first time since March but the title-chasing Gunners will be a different proposition and make the shortlist at 13/10.
In the evening Sheffield United welcome Manchester United to Bramall Lane. The Blades are still winless at the foot of the table after picking up just one point from their opening eight games. Scott McTominey got the Red Devils out of jail against Brentford and had a goal harshly ruled out for Scotland against Spain. He looks almost certain to start after that cameo appearance against the Bees and is a tasty 13/2 to net anytime.
Manchester City and Newcastle United could have tricky home fixtures against Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively but if you fancy the home Double it pays even money.
The top two in the Championship are away from home with Ipswich Town at Rotherham on Friday night and league leaders Leicester City away to Swansea City who have won their last four in the league. The win Double for the visitors pays 6/4.
Middlesbrough are worth watching at the moment. They look like they’ve found their mojo once again under Michael Carrick. They’ve won five on the bounce including a 4-0 derby thumping of Sunderland and welcome Birmingham on Saturday. That of course means Wayne Rooney will be the dugout following his surprise appointment during the international break. Boro are 3/4 but the new manager factor throws some doubt on that and the Blues are 15/4 to mark Rooney’s first game in charge with a win.
Another manager making his bow will be Phillipe Clement at Ibrox. The Belgian is the latest Rangers boss tasked with closing the gap on Celtic. Hibs are the opponents and under Nick Montgomery they’ve yet to taste defeat. The Hibees are 6/1 to hand Clement a defeat on his introduction to Scottish football but a full Ibrox will be willing the former Monaco manager to a winning start at 4/11.
Dundee United‘s away form has been good in the Championship. They’re in Glasgow on Saturday against Partick Thistle who have been inconsistent all season. There should be goals in this one with Over 2.5 at 17/20.
On Friday night Airdrieonians look a tempting price at 23/20 to beat Queen’s Park. The Diamonds’ home form had been good until a 2-1 defeat to Ayr last time out but the Spiders are in freefall at the moment and need to be opposed.
Let us know who’s on your shortlist for the weekend.
