It’s a slow day on the football front but a big week lies ahead for nations aiming to qualify for the Euro 2024.
England are cruising through qualification as usual. They meet Ukraine in Wroclaw, Poland on Saturday and win would all but seal a place in Germany next summer. With qualification nailed on Bet365 go 11/4 on Gareth Southgate doing so by winning all their games.
Scotland are in a phenomenal position at the top of Group A after four wins from four. A win in Cyprus on Friday would set them up nicely for their trip to Spain in October. Bookies rate Steve Clarke’s men as 1/6 chances to qualify from the group from here.
If they fail to qualify from Group A the Scots will get a second bite at qualification via the Nations League Play-Offs. Passports at the ready.
Wales are struggling in Group D where Turkey, Armenia and Croatia sit above them in the table. Two defeats in the last double-header could prove fatal to their chances of qualifying so Monday’s match in Latvia is must-win for Rob Page’s men. They’re currently 3/1 shots to qualify.
Northern Ireland’s hopes are even more forlorn at 50/1 to finish in the top two of Group H. Their only points have come against minnows San Marino and this week will be clocking up miles, if north points, on tricky assignments in Slovenia and Kazakhstan.
Despite just one win from three Republic of Ireland are still in contention for a qualifying spot but face a tough week with a trip to France tomorrow before welcoming the Netherlands to Dublin on Sunday. Justifiably they’re 10/1 to finish top two but there could be a zero added to that by the end of this international break.
It’s a struggle to find a bet for tonight but in Ireland Derry City should record a comfortable win at UCD. The hosts have managed just two wins this season and have shipped 71 goals, averaging Over 2.5 goals conceded per match. Derry have put 4, 4, 3, 1, 7, 2 past UCD in their last six visits.
Derry are 1/6 to win but they shouldn’t be too far away from hitting Over 2.5 goals themselves at 5/6.
