“Form goes out the window” is a well-worn cliche when it comes to derbies, but what if both sides are out of form?
As we head in to the first Glasgow Derby of the season neither Rangers or Celtic can claim to be at the peak of their powers.
Rangers’ dreams of qualifying for the Champions League were crushed by PSV Eindhoven whilst Celtic have failed to win or even score in their last two outings against Kilmarnock (0-1) and St Johnstone (0-0), so the pressure is on both managers who’ll find themselves in the midst of a crisis if they fail to win.
Celtic opened up as 6/4 favourites last Saturday but the prices have been turned on their head since then with the Gers now most likely in the bookies’ eyes at 13/10 to win and Hoops out to 9/5.

Rangers won the last meeting convincingly by three goals to nil but the league title was done and dusted by then so we can’t read too much in to that but a significant factor could be the lack of any Celtic fans today – the result of an ongoing dispute between the clubs over away tickets allocations.
That makes for an even more hostile environment for Brendan Rodgers’ men who’ll need to keep a fervent home support quiet.
But Rangers will look to come flying out the traps, like they did last time when the opened the scoring inside five minutes, something they also did when the sides met in at Ibrox in April 2022. In fact all of the last three meetings at Ibrox have seen an early goal, with Daizen Maeda notching for the Bhoys on in the fifth minute back in January.
A goal inside the first 10 minutes today pays 3/1 (Bet365) whereas a goal before 25:00 is 5/6 (Bet365).
Home advantage and 50,000 fans makes the home win a decent proposition at 13/10 especially as Brendan Rodgers is likely to hand debuts to one or two new arrivals. That could allow Michael Beale’s men to get a foothold in the game and the lack of goals for Celtic of late will be a worry for the Hoops’ faithful.
At Pittodrie both Aberdeen and Hibs will be looking to put their Euro exits behind them.
The Dons were hugely disappointing on Thursday at home to BK Hacken but they’re a pretty solid record at Pittodrie domestically under Barry Robson.
In absence of a permanent manager David Gray takes charge of the Hibees in search of their first league win of the season.
Aberdeen can bounce back with a win at 13/10 and Bojan Miovski looks the best bet to score at 7/4 having netted in his last five matches.
In the Premier League Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield.
Mo Salah was the subject of huge offer from Al Ittihad on transfer deadline day but the Egyptian remains a Red. For now. He’s scored six goals in his last six starts against Villa and is 11/10 to underline his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side with a goal today.

Villa shouldn’t be written off in this one. Liverpool may have lost just once in 43 home league games but Unai Emery’s side have been one of the most consistent in 2023, picking up 49 points so far, a tally only bettered by Manchester City.
Liverpool fans will also know that the absence of Virgil Van Dijk isn’t good news. The Reds only won one of six games he missed last season. You can get 19/5 on the away win at SBK or 6/5 in the Double Chance market.
Super Sunday match is at the Emirates where old foes Arsenal and Manchester United meet.
United have laboured to their two wins this season and just seem a bit short of quality against the top teams in the league.
Arsenal haven’t yet top gear yet either but they’ve a good recent record against the Red Devils at home where they’re unbeaten in five (W4 D1).
It’s 3/4 they win today but they need to score a couple to do so. They’ve only kept four clean sheets in their last 26 matches at home so a Gunners win with Over 2.5 match goals could yield more profit at 6/5.
