The first Saturday of the new season threw up a few surprise results, hopefully things go a little more smoothly for fans today.
At Wembley the traditional season curtain raiser features Arsenal and Manchester City in the Community Shield.
City eventually overhauled the Gunners in the league last season en route to the league title and an historic treble but Pep Guardiola has claimed they’re not as sharp going in to today’s showpiece thanks to a shortened pre-season.
City have lost the last two editions of this match to Liverpool and Leicester so perhaps Guardiola is getting his excuses in early.
Arsenal have strengthened in the summer with the addition of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber who have bolstered a squad that promised so much last term and although today’s match is little more than a glorified friendly they’ll be keen to lay down a marker for the season.
City still retain the better quality but in a one-off match where even the manager says they’re.a little undercooked they’re a little short at 8/11. That makes the 10/3 on Arsenal look a bit of value, especially given Manchester City recent record in this match.
In Scotland Hibs host St Mirren at Easter Road off the back of a 6-1 win in Europe on Thursday and we could see goals again.
Martin Boyle is the man that makes the Hibees tick and goals are always likely with him on the pitch.
The Buddies had a fine season last term and will be aiming for a repeat of their top six finish. They’ve lost Curtis Main at the top end of the pitch but are more than capable of getting on the scoresheet in the capital today where BTTS pays 4/5.
