Ireland’s women will be out to restore some pride in Brisbane this morning after two defeats in World Cup Group B has seen them suffer an early exit from the tournament.
It’s been a baptism of fire for the Irish in their first appearance at the tournament in alongside Australia, Canada and an impressive Nigeria side but they’ve not been disgraced.
The Nigerians know that a draw or a win will guarantee their passage into the knock-out stages. A 3-2 win over hosts Australia proved they had plenty of firepower in their ranks and with plenty still at stake for the Africans the 23/20 on offer for a third Irish defeat looks appealing.
The group’s other match could be a cagey affair. Olympic champions Canada are in the box seat and a draw will be good enough for them to secure qualification at the expense of the Matildas.
An early exit wasn’t in the script for the host nation and they’re 6/5 to get the win they need in front of their own fans. It’s 4/6 that Canada avoid defeat.
Neither side have set the heather alight thus far and we can probably expect both teams to be cautious and try not to give too much away.
29 of the 36 matches so far have failed to see both teams score so it’s surprise to see this one priced at 4/5 for No to BTTS.
No early goal before 32:00 is handily priced at 5/6.
