Starting the competition in early July levels the playing field a bit and it will be interesting to see how United react to their 1-0 loss against SPFL new boys Spartans.

New Dundee boss Tony Docherty is also taking charge of his first competitive game as the Dark Blues head to Bonnyrigg Rose.
Derek McInnes’ long-time assistant is stepping out of his shadow and friendly results have been impressive so far.
Dundee have won five in a row during pre-season, keeping clean sheets in their last two outings. So I’m on a win to nil for the Dark Blues at 8/5 (BetVictor).
Motherwell avoided a slip in their group opener with a 2-0 win at Elgin and look in good shape under Stuart Kettlewell.
League One Queen of the South should give them a stiffer test at Palmerston tonight but I still fancy Well to be winning at half-time and full-time (8/5, BoyleSports).
