Hosts Georgia kicked-off the U21 Euros with a surprise win over Portugal suggesting this won’t be the easiest tournament to predict for punters.
England will be out to avoid a slip-up in their opener today against familiar foes Czech Republic.
The two nations were drawn together in qualification Group G and the Young Lions were victorious in both meetings, winning 3-1 way back in November 2021 at Turf Moor before triumphing 2-1 over a year ago in the return match.
In the end just three points separated the sides and the Czechs earned their place in the finals via a two-legged play-off win over Iceland.
The drawn out nature of qualification, which began over two years ago, makes it difficult to draw any firm conclusions on the form or strength of the teams involved but Lee Carsley’s side have plenty of top-level experience with the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Emile Smith Rowe and Anthony Gordon included in the squad, however Carsley is now without qualifying top scorer Folarin Balogun who has opted to represent the United States.
The big note of caution as far as England are concerned is that despite having a strong qualification record they’ve only managed to make it out of their group in the last nine editions of the competition.
They face Israel on Sunday before a showdown with defending champions Germany so will be keen to get off to a winning start.
They scored two or more in eight of their ten qualifying so backing them to win while scoring at least a couple of goals pays 5/6.
