Morocco v Spain = Both Teams to Score
Morocco are one of the surprise packages of the tournament so far and the Atlas Lions have been a lot of fun to follow. As well as being defensively robust, they’ve also looked good going forward and Chelsea fans will be wondering why Hakim Ziyech can’t play like this every week in the Premier League. Either way, Morocco cannot be taken lightly.
Spain were drawn alongside Germany and Japan and although they got off to the best possible start, they were unable to maintain those high standards in their remaining two Group E games. Luis Enrique’s side are young and have shown their inexperience at times, however, they are undoubtedly effective going forward. Their defence cannot be trusted and as both Germany and Japan demonstrated, if you put them under pressure, they are likely to buckle.
Portugal v Switzerland = Draw
Portugal finished top of Group H despite not completely convincing during the group stage. Fernando Santos’ side were lucky to win 2-0 against Uruguay with a dubious penalty making the result look a little more convincing than it should have been. They were beaten by South Korea in their final group game, although they did make changes for that tie.
They have plenty of match-winners and aside from the obvious player, it’s been a standout tournament for Bruno Fernandes. With their star men returning to the fold here, they should be difficult to beat and Santos is likely to have a game plan in mind. Switzerland are another side who are tough to break down and given that all three of their Group G matches were decided by a single goal margin, this should be another close encounter.
