After the dramatic penalty shoot-out that saw Luton claim a place in the Premier League on Saturday, Wembley is ready to do it all again today as Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday battle it out for a place in the Championship.
Owls fans have probably seen enough drama already following their incredible second-leg comeback against Peterborough. Their penalty shoot-out win, after coming back from a four-goal defecit, could stand them in good stead this afternoon if it goes the distance.
Barnsley’s semi-final was a little less eventful. A second leg 1-0 win at Oakwell was enough to see them make it to Wembley after a 1-1 draw with Bolton.
Wednesday finished the League One campaign 10 points ahead of Barnsley but it was the Tykes that had the upper hand in the two league meetings between the sides, winning 2-0 at Hillsborough and 4-2 at home.
The bookies make Sheffield Wednesday 8/13 favourties to qualify with Barnsley priced up at 13/10.
Wednesday are 23/20 to win inside the 90 minutes and that abberation in the first leg against Peterborough aside they’ve been in great form. They won five of their last six in the league to finish just two points away from automatic promotion.
If they can continue that momentum and build on the high of their semi-final success it could be a Magic Monday for Wednesday.
