At this stage of the season it’s all about who can handle the pressure and there’s matches up and down the country with huge amounts at stake today.
In the Premier League it’s all about the bottom half of the table today with none of the top seven in action.
The bookies can barely separate Crystal Palace (13/8) and West Ham (7/4). Both sides have edged their way out of trouble the past few weeks and share of the spoils wouldn’t be the worst result for either of them and BTTS could be a good option at 19/20.
The worry for Brighton is that a season that promised so much could fizzle out. An FA Cup semi-final penalty shoot-out defeat was a sore one to take and was quickly followed up by defeat at relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
Today they host a Wolves side who are looking pretty safe after three wins in their last four. All three of tose victories have been at home however and they’ve picked up just 11 points on their travels, only three of those have come against teams currently in the top half; Aston Villa, Brentford and Fulham.
The Seagulls are just 1/2 to bounce back today which feels very short and probably best avoided so how about a goalscorer bet on young prospect Facundo Buonanotte who scored on Wednesday at Forest. The 18-year-old Argentinian is 15/4 to make it two in two.
In the Championship, Coventry City are in the hunt for a play-off place and should boost their chances with a win over Birmingham who have little to play for. The Sky Blues have lost just once in 15 and look a solid option at 4/9 on the accas.
Sunderland were squeezed out of the play-off places by Millwall last night but be expecting a win over Watford today at the Stadium of Light. The Hornets are one of those clubs with nothing at stake and have lost four of their last six. Again, the Black Cats look good acca material.
There are some really short prices kicking around League One. Ipswich (1/6), Peterborough (2/5), Plymouth (2/5), Sheffield Wednesday (8/15), Bolton (8/15) and Derby (1/2) make for a 7/1 six-fold but one of them is bound to fall short – good luck picking which one.
In League Two Harrogate Town‘s matches have provided plenty of entertainment of late. All six in April have seen Over 2.5 Goals with five of them going Over 3.5. Their trip to Mansfield should yield goals. Five of the Stags last seen have seen Both Team Score. Three or more total goals pays 4/5.
The first of the weekend’s two Scottish Cup semi-finals kicks-off at 12:15 at Hampden. It’s a repeat of the 2015 final which saw Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Falkirk 2-1 to win the trophy for the first and only time in their history.
Falkirk are aiming to make it to the final for a fourth time in 26 years – not bad for a club that’s plied its trade outside the top division for the majority of that period. The Bairns’ last success was back in 1957 when they ovecame Kilmarnock to win for a second time.e
Whoever prevails today will find themselves huge outsiders in the final however with either Rangers or Celtic lying in wait from tomorrow’s clash.
Caley’s late run could still see them make the play-offs in the Championship where they’re unbeaten in seven (W6 D1) and one of the form teams in the country. A division below, Falkirk are guaranteed a second-placed finish having been unable to overhaul Dunfermline at the top. Form has been a bit patchy lately but they warmed up for this one with a good 4-1 win at Alloa last weekend.
The Highlanders are justifiably favourites and look a bit of value at 23/20. Billy Dodds appears to be getting the most out of his squad at the moment and is possibly a little unfortunate that the current run of form has come a little too late to really challenge for the Championship title. If Inverness bring their A-game to the national stadium they should book their place in June’s final.
In the Scottish Championship, Raith Rovers are the only side who have nothing to play for and that’s been reflected in their recent results. They’ve picked up just one point in their last five games and that could be good news for Ayr United who retain hopes of making the play-offs. The two sides meet at Somerset Park today where it’s must-win for the Honest Men who must also hope that Partick Thistle come unstuck at home to Abroath.
Goals should be on the menu at Airdrie where Queen of the South are the visitors. The home sides’ 77 goals have only been bettered by Celtic and Rangers in Scotland and there’s been 20 goals scored in the Doonhamers’ last five games so Over 2.5 is fancied at 13/20.
