The DP World Tour visits South Korea for the first time in over 10 years for this week’s Korea Championship at The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, Incheon, South Korea.
The 144 field with the Top 65 including ties making the weekend will all compete for a share of the $2M prize purse with the winner collecting the Korea Championship title and a winner’s cheque for $333,400.
Again like last week in Japan there will be lots of homegrown talent on the show so beware not to get mixed with your Lee’s & Kim’s when placing any bets.
The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club will be playing 7,450 yards long this week, it’s a par 72 parkland track with water hazards galore but wide generous fairways should compensate in a low-scoring affair. This venue will suit the big hitters in the field.
The weather is forecast to be nice and pleasant throughout with warm & sunny conditions. Breezes could be the problem peaking at around 20mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 5 am in the morning for the early birds.
Bob MacIntyre 22/1 EW Betway 1-7 places
For my first and main selection in South Korea I’m going to advise a player who I always look forward to tipping, it’s our very own Bob MacIntyre 22/1 EW Betway 1-7 places. The young 26-year-old Scot from Oban is one of only a handful of the World’s Top 100 ranked players in attendance and he could make good use of that ranking this week in South Korea.
This talented kid from the gateway to the highlands also arrives on the back of some fine recent form. T6th last time out at the ISPS Handa Championship can be backed up with T7th at his previous event in Africa at the Magical Kenya Open. That’s now three Top 20 finishes for Bob in 2023 having played at only seven events.
MacIntyre is currently ranked 13th on the DPWT for Greens in Regulation and with not much to get in the way, if he produces those kinda figures this week then he will be well on his way to landing his third DWPT crown at The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Grant Forrest 50/1 EW LiveScorebet
For my next best selection I’m going to single out another Scot , Grant Forrest 50/1 EW LiveScorebet. The 29-year-old from Livingston arrives in Korea brimming with confidence having finished inside the Top 10 again last weekend in Japan. He finished 4th at the ISPS Handa Championship and hasn’t missed a cut in all events entered in 2023.
His recent 6th place effort at the Singapore Classic could also be a clue around here and T10th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at the start of the year is also worth a mention.
Forrest became the first Scotsman to win on home soil in nearly a decade when scooping the Hero Open at Fairmont St Andrews in 2021 and this could be the perfect opportunity for him to double up when he bags another DP World Tour title this weekend.
Adrian Meronk 22/1 EW Unibet 1-6 places
For my final outright selection, I’m going to point you all in the direction of Adrian Meronk 22/1 EW Unibet 1-6 places. The 29yrs old Pole born in Hamburg is one of the highest-ranked players in the field this week and he could easily make that show with yet another fine winning performance. Meronk could be the one they all have to beat from start to finish, especially with all the experience he’s gained recently playing on the PGA Tour amongst the world’s golfing elite.
Meronk can be forgiven for missing the cut last time out at The Masters as he did show much more promise at The Honda Classic where he finished in 14th place.
He also finished inside the Top 20 with 17th place at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay but his best performance this year came at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship on the DP World Tour where he finished 4th.
The winner of last year’s Irish Open and also the ISPS Handa Australian Open could make this look like a walk in the park if firing on all cylinders and the 22/1 presently on offer could be more like 2/1 on Sunday morning.
