SlipsTips shares a selection from Tuesday night’s sprinkling of SPFL fixtures, with Falkirk’s fixture with FC Edinburgh under examination.
Falkirk vs FC Edinburgh (Tuesday, 19:45)
Falkirk will endeavour to return to winning ways in Scottish League One when they entertain FC Edinburgh on Tuesday night.
The Bairns bagged a late equaliser last time out against Airdrie to ensure they remain five points in front of the Diamonds in second place with three rounds of fixtures left to play.
As for FC Edinburgh, they have performed well above expectations in their first season in Scotland’s third tier, although they have started to wilt as we enter the closing stages of the campaign, with Alan Maybury’s men most recently losing 2-1 to lowly Clyde.
It’s therefore no surprise to see Falkirk chalked up as short priced 1/2 favourites here but backing the Bairns to win in a match that produces two or more goals will boost the odds up to a much more enticing 17/20 (William Hill).
While Falkirk have wobbled since securing a place in this season’s Scottish Cup semi-finals, there has been marked improvement in each of their last three performances, all of which I’ve witnessed first hand.
John McGlynn’s men played well for long stages in their recent home matches with Dunfermline and Airdrie and their 2-1 win at Montrose last midweek should have been a lot more comfortable than the scoreline suggested.
What’s more, I suspect Falkirk boss John McGlynn will be taking this fixture very seriously as a win here could afford him the luxury of rotating his resources in the league games to come either side of their Scottish Cup and promotion playoff commitments.
FC Edinburgh’s top-our hopes on the other hand, are hanging by a thread, and their recent defeats to perennial strugglers Peterhead and Clyde suggests they may already be on the beach.
In fact, the capital club are without a win in each of their last six league games, losing on four occasions during that sequence, which doesn’t bode well ahead of a trip to Falkirk side with the joint-best home record in the division.
With all that in mind, coupled with the fact that this bet would have paid out in each of the previous three meetings between the pair this season, I see no reason to oppose the same formula at the Falkirk Stadium on Tuesday night at 17/20 (William Hill).
Recommended Bet
- Falkirk to Win & Over 1.5 Goals – 17/20 (William Hill)
