Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me once more focus on the European ties, and there’s one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

Bayer Leverkusen will look to make use of home advantage in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final as they welcome Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise to the BayArena on Thursday evening.
Bayer Leverkusen’s scintillating form continued on Saturday as they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 to leapfrog last year’s Europa League winners into sixth position in the Bundesliga table – the final automatic European spot. Xabi Alonso’s men have now won each of their last seven matches in all competitions, including two 2-0 victories over Hungarian champions Ferencváros in the previous round of this competition.
Union Saint-Gilloise saw their four-match winning run in the Belgian Pro League come to an end at the weekend as they drew 1-1 away at fourth-placed Gent – a result that still moved them within two points of league leaders Genk. After topping their Europa League group by finishing above Union Berlin, Karel Geraerts’s men were once again drawn to play against the Bundesliga side in the previous round, and following a thrilling 3-3 draw in the German capital, Les Unionistes progressed to the quarters following a 3-0 victory at home in the second leg.

Bayer Leverkusen head into this tie having found the back of the net on multiple occasions in 11 of their previous 12 matches in all competitions – including all four Europa League contests – and I’m backing Die Werkself to score at least twice at home to a USG defence that has registered just four clean sheets away from home both domestically and in Europe this season.
To increase the price, I’m happy to add in an extra match goal. Given the goal-scoring form that they are in, Leverkusen are more than capable of covering this themselves. However, Les Unionistes have scored in each of their previous 18 Pro League and Europa League assignments on the road and will be confident of troubling a Leverkusen defence that’s only registered three clean sheets across their last 14 fixtures – with two coming against Ferencváros and the other against the Bundesliga’s current basement side Schalke.
