Arsenal have the chance to deliver a psychological blow to title rivals Manchester City today if they can open up an eight-point gap at the summit of the Premier League.
Managerless Crystal Palace are the visitors after they parted company with Patrick Vieira earlier in the week. The Eagles’ recent stats have been damning, 11 games without a win, just four goals scored and only 26 shots on target and they’ve failed to win any of their 17 matches against teams currently in the top half of the season.
As for the Gunners, they’ll be hoping that their Europa League exit is a blessing in disguise as they chase their first title since 2004. Backing Arsenal at 1/4 won’t make us rich but they’re worth a second look to be winning at half-time and full-time at 4/5.
The FA Cup quarter-finals dominate today’s TV schedule and it starts early at Bramall Lane with Sheffield Utd v Blackburn. The Blades lead Rovers by nine points in the Championship but it’s Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men who come in to the tie in slightly better form. They’ve lost just on eof their last 13 and won six of their last seven including a 1-0 over today’s opponents at the start of the month.
Sheffield United have stuttered a little, losing four of their last eight and are starting to look over their shoulder at teams trying to catch them in second place.
Blackburn could be a bet at 19/4 today but a safer option would be to back them on the Double Chance market at a healthy 23/20.
Brighton v Grimsby makes little appeal from a betting perspective. The Mariners have done tremendously well to reach their first FA Cup quarter-final since 1939 but their run looks likely to come to an abrupt end against ther high-flying Seagulls.
At Old Trafford, it’s hard to see past Manchester United although Fulham won’t make life easy for them. United have proven themselves to be a good cup team this season, the Carabao Cup is already in the bag and they’re into the quarter-finals of the Europa League so they’re still eyeing a cup treble. 4/9 is too short to get involved however.
There’s also the small matter of the El Clasico tonight, live on Viaplay. Barcelona have had the upper hand in the fixture of late, winning four of the last five including a recent 1-0 win at the Bernabeu in the Copa Del Rey. A win tonight would more or less seal the La Liga title as it would move Barca 12 points clear of their great rivals.
So it’s all on the line for Real tonight. As a result, we could see them open up in a game they must win. Seven of the last nine clashes have seen over 2.5 goals and it’s handily priced at 10/11 tonight.
In Italy Napoli can continue their pursuit of the Scudetto with a win at Torino. Luciano Spaletti’s side look unstoppable at the moment and after a 33-year wait they’ll be in a hurry to tie up the Serie A title as quickly as possible.
