Just one FA Cup Fifth Round tie remains and it’s at Pride Park tonight where 1946 winners Derby County host three-time winners West Ham.
The Rams are on the up. Former Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has led his side to six wins in a row which has seen them climb to fourth in the table and the only team to inflict defeat on them since the end of October is Liverpool. On penalties, after a 0-0 draw. That’s one solitary defeat in 17 games. Brilliant form.
So they’ll be bouyant ahead of the visit of David Moyes’ side who have struggled for any kind of consistency this season. The Hammers are slap bang in the middle of a battle to avoid the drop, one of seven teams separated by just three points at the foot of the Premier League.
Their away form has been lamentable this season, just one win in 10 and five points won from a possible 30 in the league. That must make their trip the M1 a daunting one tonight.
The bookies rate Derby 7/2 chances to win inside the 90 minutes with the Hammers at 4/5. But the visitors could be vulnerable if they’re not on their game in front of a packed Pride Park, under the lights and live on national TV.
The Hammers needed a last-minute equaliser and extra-time winner to get past sixth-tier Kidderminster Harriers at this stage of the competition a year ago so shouldn’t be taking this one lightly but in-form Derby could make it a tricky night.
Like Wrexham yesterday the best option could be to back Derby on the Double Chance market where they’re available at 11/10 with SBK.
