An intriguing Serie A showdown takes place on Tuesday night, as Lazio square off with AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.
Maurizio Sarri’s sixth-placed team have had a mixed start following the World Cup break, having lost one, drawn one and won one since the resumption.
As for second in the table AC Milan, they will be seeking to dust themselves down after being on the wrong end of a comprehensive 3-0 Italian Super Cup defeat to arch-rivals Inter last midweek.
Given that both sides have struggled for consistency this season so far, I’m happy to opt for an alternative angle here by siding with Over 2.5 Match goals at a rather enticing 19/20(SBK).
Both of these big-hitters have had plenty of success in terms of their attacking output this season, with Lazio scoring in 15 of their 18 league games this term, while AC Milan have netted at least once in all but two occasions during the same sample.
At the other end of the park, the Eagles have shown a bit more solidity at the back across the first half of the campaign, whereas the Rossoneri’s rearguard have registered just four clean sheets in 18 attempts in Serie A this season.
That inability to keep the back door locked can be attributed to the fact that eight of AC Milan’s last nine league games have featured a minimum of three match goals, with their most recent two contests crashing through the Over 3.5 Goal barrier.
In fact, a joint league-high 13 of the reigning champions’ opening 18 matches of the season have delivered 3+ strikes, a sample that includes six of their last seven Italian top-flight road trips.
While Lazio have looked more assured defensively this season, they have shipped seven goals across their last four league games, with all but one of those fixtures generating three goals or more.
When you consider that Over 2.5 Goals has landed in 23 of the pair’s collective 36 (63.8%) Serie A assignments this season so far, I’m more than happy to side with a repeat here given that 19/20 (SBK) odds imply a 51.3 % chance of the same copping in the capital on Tuesday night.
