Saturday’s victory over City will mean nothing if Manchester United can’t follow it up with a win at Crystal Palace tonight.
Playing before Man City do on Thursday (v Spurs) gives Erik ten Hag’s side the chance go above their rivals and in to second in the table – something that would’ve been unthinkable after a 6-3 mauling at the Etihad back in October – even if it if for just 24 hours.
Opponents, Palace seem to have lost their way a little and have won just once since the World Cup break. It’s just one win in five since then and one win in seven all told.
The same can’t be said of the Red Devils who have been relentless lately. The football may not be as stylish as that of yesteryear but there’s no arguing with the results. Their 9 consecutive wins equals their best run since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and a win tonight would make that run the best since 2014.
Bookies have the visitors around the 4/5 mark and based on current form that looks a fair price.
Leeds Utd are much shorter at just 1/3 to overcome Cardiff City at the second time of asking. Jesse Marsch’s men got out of jail in Wales 10 days ago, coming from two-down to equalise in the 94th minute and keep their FA Cup hopes alive.
The American hailed Leeds’ performance in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa as their best since he arrived at Elland Road but they need to start putting wins on the board and progress to the fourth round would provide a welcome morale boost.
It was an entertaining and open game when the two sides drew 2-2 and we could see more of the same tonight. Leeds to prevail with over 2.5 goals in the game pays 10/11.
The battle for 3rd place in Scotland could be all but over if Hearts beat Aberdeen at Tynecastle this evening. The Jambos are already six points ahead of the Dons, who, on paper, look their main rivals to finish behind the two Glasgow giants.
Aberdeen’s dreadful away form has been their achilles heel this season. Just seven points from a possible 30 isn’t good enough. In fact they’ve only won twice away from home in the last 12 months so it’s almost impossible to make case for them to do so tonight in the capital.
Hearts weren’t at their best in the recent 1-0 over St Mirren but they’re very capable of grinding out results, especially at home where the only teams to win there in the league in the last 12 months are Celtic, Rangers and… Dundee!
When you compare the teams two records, 23/20 on the home win looks very generous.
Unusually, Celtic and Rangers both play at the same time tonight, against St Mirren and Kilmarnock respectively.
The Buddies are having a terrific season but much of that has been down to their home form where they’ve picked up 22 points, compared to just five on the road. No surprise then to see Celtic at just 1/9 to win.
Ange Postecoglou could make a few changes but the Hoops should still get the job done. The win to nil is backable at 8/11.
Things could be a bit more challenging for Rangers at Rugby Park where Kilmarnock have enjoyed some solid form. They’ve only lost twice at home and after putting up a good showing in Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against Celtic will be confident of giving the Gers a run for their money.
Michael Beale maintained his unbeaten start as the boss at Ibrox with a taxing extra-time win over Aberdeen on Sunday however Rangers conceded the first goal for the 16th time this season and it’s 10/3 that Killie break the deadlock tonight. BTTS looks a runner at 19/20.
