We’ve only had one Old Firm final in the last 12 years but the bookies are banking on the Glasgow giants squaring up for the Viaplay Cup.
It’s semi-final weekend with Celtic facing Kilmarnock today before Rangers and Aberdeen lock horns tomorrow.
The Hoops are holders and have lifted this trophy five times in the last six years.
So McBookie make them 1/33 hot favourites to reach another final, with the odds shortening to 1/8 for a win in 90 minutes.
Killie are a whopping 16/1 for a shock win in normal time while backing them to reach the showpiece pays 10/1. The draw at 90 minutes is 17/2.
Rangers have yet to lose under Michael Beale so it’s no surprise to see them at short odds to get past the Dons.
A win inside 90 minutes pays 4/7 with McBookie while Gers are 2/7 to reach the final.
Aberdeen are 13/5 to progress while the odds increase to 4/1 if you back Jim Goodwin’s men to finish the job without extra-time or penalties.
The last Celtic v Rangers final was in this competition back in December 2019 and a double on wins for the big two inside 90 minutes pays 76/100 at Betway.
Aberdeen can take heart from the fact an Old Firm final also looked on the cards last year only for Hibs to stun Rangers with a 3-1 victory in the semi-final.
Goodwin’s side also came close to beating Gers in the league at Pittodrie last month, only for two stoppage-time Scott Arfield strikes to secure an incredible 3-2 win.
The bookies are banking on more thrills tomorrow with BTTS a best 11/17 (SBK) and over 2.5 goals just 1/2 (Betfred).
But semis can often be cagey so the value bet could be under 2.5 goals at 17/10 at McBookie.
The same firm also price a one-goal winning margin for either side at a tempting 13/8.
This fixture is always fiery and we saw 10 yellow cards in that Pittodrie thriller last month.
That makes over 5.5 cards worth a punt at 8/5 with Unibet but it may be wiser backing cards for individual players.
Aberdeen’s Liam Scales looks good at 11/5 with Bet365 while the same firm price Ibrox midfielder John Lundstram at 7/4.
Celtic and Kilmarnock had a dress rehearsal last weekend with the Hoops winning 2-0 in the league at home. I’d expect a similar kind of game with Derek McInnes’ men looking to frustrate.
It took Ange Postecoglou’s side until first-half stoppage time to break the deadlock so I like under 1.5 first-half goals today at evens with McBookie.
There wasn’t a single card flashed in last week’s league game but I’d expect more tackles to fly in for a semi-final.
Alan Power is usually good value for a card and the Kilmarnock midfielder is 11/8 with Bet365 to fall foul of the referee.
Scottish Premiership Tips
There are also three Premiership fixtures today with Motherwell hosting Ross County in a massive match. The Staggies sit bottom but are just three points behind a Well side without a win in seven.
The Steelmen are in freefall so County look overpriced at 15/4 with McBookie.
Both teams have been conceding a lot and that makes over 2.5 goals appealing at 21/20 (Unibet).
Hibs ended their slump with a win at Fir Park last weekend and now host Dundee United.
Kevin Nisbet’s confidence will be flying after a hat-trick in that game and he’s 7/4 at Paddy Power for another goal.
St Johnstone host Livingston in the other game and I like the half-time draw at evens (Bet365).
