After delivering another winner in his midweek column, SlipsTips is back with a selection from the SPFL on Saturday, with Peterhead’s meeting with Airdrie under the microscope.
Peterhead vs Airdrie (Saturday, 15:00)
Airdrie will be looking to get their Scottish League One playoff push back on track when they pay Peterhead a visit on Saturday afternoon.
Rhys McCabe’s men have managed some good results this season, but inconsistency has plagued their progress to date, and that was evident in Monday’s 5-3 reverse at home to Edinburgh.
As for Peterhead, they continue to prop up the third tier standings, however new boss David Robertson did bank his first point as manager courtesy of a 0-0 draw with Montrose last time out.
Despite snapping a three-game losing streak in their last outing, the Blue Toon are big outsiders here at 4/1, while an Airdrie success can be backed at a general 4/7.
As such, the Diamonds will no doubt find themselves forming part of plenty of punters’ accumulators this weekend, however I’m happy to highlight an alternative offering by backing the visitors to score two or more goals here at 4/5 (SBK).
While Airdrie find themselves residing in sixth-place, they are the second joint-top scorers in the division, having netted 36 times across their opening 19 matches of the season, an average of 1.9 per-game.
What’s more, North Lanarkshire outfit have slammed in seven strikes across their last two league games, including four in their most recent road game at Montrose.
That doesn’t augur well for a Peterhead team that have leaked a league-high 45 goals across their opening 19 contests of the campaign, with last week’s aforementioned stalemate their solitary shutout so far.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Balmoor basement boys have shipped two or more goals in lofty 15 of their 19 League One outings to date, one which was when hosting the Diamonds on the opening weekend of the season.
With all this in mind, backing what is an attack-minded Airdrie outfit to score two or more goals on Saturday stands out at 4/5 with SBK.
