Everton boss Frank Lampard claims he’s not seeking reassurances from the board about his position but with his team languishing in 18th place in the Premier League he might see tonight’s FA Cup match as a welcome distraction.
The only problem is that it’s at the home of 12-time winners of the competition, Manchester United.
It’s been seven years since United last won the competition and 28 years since Everton’s name was etched on the famous old trophy so success for either is overdue.
But there’s nothing in the Toffee’s form to suggest they can cause an upset at Old Trafford tonight. Tuesday’s 4-1 loss at home to Brighton was their fourth defeat in five league games. United on the other hand have won their last five in all competitions and Erik ten Hag has things going in the right direction following the very public departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Team news is thin on the ground but it would come as no surprise if both managers opted to give some fringe players a run out so keep an eye on team news in advance of kick-off.
United are just 9/20 which could be a bit short if ten Hag decides to run with a much-changed line-up but he went with a relatively strong starting XI in the recent EFL cup match against Burnley, fielding the likes of Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes and Rashford alongside Dúbravka in goal, Garnacho and the likes of Lindelöf and McTominay who haven’t featured much this season.
For their part, Everton are already out of the EFL Cup, trounced 4-1 by Bournemouth – perhaps a measure of where Lampard’s priorities lie this season; Premier League survival.
Marcus Rashford is the man in form for United. He’s scored in his last four and its now five in his last six for the England striker. Despite that, Bet365 have priced up four players ahead of him in the anytime goalscorer market so the 11/5 on him to find the net isn’t to be ignored if he starts tonight.
Dundee were coupon-busters for plenty of punters on Saturday. They relinquished top spot in the Championship when they lost 4-2 at home to second-bottom Arbroath but can bounce back tonight and reclaim their place at the summit with a win at Raith.
But play it a bit safer by backing them on the Double Chance alongside a United win for a 20/21 Friday night Double.
