Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the texture of the Dutch second-tier, and there’s one fixture in particular that stands out to me for goals.

Heracles will look to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Eerste Divisie table as they travel to the AFAS Trainingscomplex to take on Jong AZ.
Jong AZ not only suffered just their second home defeat of the season but also saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end in their last league outing, as they were beaten 2-3 at home to Jong PSV. Maarten Martens’s side are the joint-third highest-scoring side at home in the Dutch second tier, finding the back of the net 20 times across their opening nine league matches as hosts. However, Jong AZ have registered just three clean sheets so far this season, conceding on 22 occasions.
Heracles ended 2022 by making it 11 wins from their previous 13 – and five on the bounce – with an eye-catching 8-1 thrashing of Dordrecht. By some distance, John Lammers’s visitors are the top-scoring side in the Eerste Divisie, scoring a whopping 55 goals across their opening 18 league matches this season. However, the Almelo-based club have kept just two clean sheets across their last 10 league tussles and none in their previous five away from home.
Bet of the Day
Heracles have failed to score in just one of their opening 18 fixtures in the league this season – remarkably scoring on multiple in the other 17 – and given Jong AZ have found the back of the net in 8/9 of their league outings as hosts – scoring at least twice in six of those – I expect both of these clubs to get on the scoresheet in this one.
Over 2.5 goals has also landed in a league-high 17/18 of the Almelo-based clubs’ fixtures this season, and given the same has landed in 10/16 of Maarten Martens’s hosts matches this season, I reckon we’ll see at least strikes here with both teams contributing.
