Lionel Messi lit up the World Cup last night with another inspirational display that guided Argentina to the final. It’s over to PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappe to respond this evening as France aim to take another step closer to defending their World Cup crown.
Incredibly it’s Morocco who are the semi-final opponents for the French. As big as 200/1 ante-post the Moroccans are now just 11/1 to pull off one of the biggest shocks in international football.
Back in 2004 it was Greece who stunned the world of football when they walked away with the European Championships at a massive 150/1 and like Morocco their success was built on a solid defence and narrow victories, so who’s to say the Atlas Lions can’t go all the way.
The north Africans have yet to concede despite facing the cream of Europe but tonight they must stifle the crème de la crème. We’ve yet to see how they’ll respond to going a goal behind and it has to be part of Didier Deshamps plans to get his sides’ noses in front, and preferably early.
A first-half French goal pays 4/5. They’ve found the net in the opening 45 in three of their five games so far including being quick out of the traps with a 17th minute strike against England.
Mbappe will be the man the French look to for inspiration and he’ll be keen to steal a march on Messi in the top goalscorer race. Both are now tied on five goals and the 23-year-old is 5/4 to add to his tally in Al Khor tonight.
Morocco have done extremely well to get this deep in to the tournament but there’s a certain inevitability about a France v Argentina, Mbappe v Messi final and this looks a step too far for French-born Walid Regragui’s side.
A France win, coupled with two or more French goals appeals at 20/21.
