A mouth-watering array of talent will line up for the World Cup quarter-finals with seven of the eight teams who have reached this stage meeting their minimum requirements of progress.
It’s time to look at Acca possibilities for the four ties on Friday and Saturday.
Brazil, Argentina, France and Portugal have all produced performances that would suggest we have just watched the winners in either a group stage game or the Round of 16 game.
Added to that, England are gathering momentum, while Croatia have made gritty, steady progress as they aim to emulate reaching the final four years ago.
The Dutch were clinical and showed their experience of their manager Louis van Gaal while picking off the States and of course Morocco’s iron defence could not be breached by the Spanish as they stunned them by winning on penalties after an incredibly dour goalless draw.
So that leads us to Croatia entertaining the dancing Brazilians on Friday afternoon, followed by Lionel Messi and co. against the Netherlands on Friday night.
Then it comes down to Morocco trying to replicate another defensive masterclass to stop a rampant Portugal who looked twice the team without Cristiano Ronaldo.
And arguably the tie of the round is a heavyweight clash on Saturday night between France and England.
Here’s an acca that could pay off, with all prices from Highbet.
For a Lucky 15, kick off with Brazil to beat Croatia and both teams to score at 62/25. Brazil look a different team with Neymar back and they carved open an admittedly extremely naive South Korea the other night time and time again.
The Croatians must have been exhausted after their penalty shoot out win over Japan, especially with the amount of work the Japanese put in.
Brazil are more than capable of scoring a few here even against a big upgrade in Croatia, but they are so open they do allow chances for their opposition. If South Korea could score, so could Croatia and a BTTS and a Brazil win could pay off.
There’s nothing fancy about the next two games. France and Argentina at odds-against have to be grasped.
The South Americans are looking better with every game since that Saudi Arabian shocker in their opener and Messi has rolled back the years with his displays.
Although van Gaal will of course have his men organised, they have yet to face anything approaching the calibre of the Argentines and the 59/50 looks a solid shout.
It’s a similar outlook for France to beat England. Although the Three Lions have been increasingly talked up and their attack is certainly potent, you have to take into consideration the level of team they have faced so far, as well as defensive frailties.
Kylian Mbappe has looked on a different level and even the most ardent of Clive Tyldesley-esque England fanatic would surely concur that the Franch superstar v Harry Maguire is a mismatch, given the amount of times the hapless Manchester United man and his partner John Stones gave the ball away to the Senegalese.
The patriotic punt from south of the border has pushed France to 133/100 and that has to be snapped up.
Finally, Portugal should be able to finally break the resistance of the well-organised Moroccans and can win to nil.
The Africans were aided by Spain’s infuriatingly dull, side-to-side possession-based football that played into their hands. Morocco will undoubtedly try the same with Portugal, but they look far more likely to mix it up to break them down. It’s hard to see a Plan B for the Moroccans if they go a goal down and the 153/100 for the Portuguese to win to nil is a good price.
It comes to a combined total of 1,093/25, which as I’m sure we all know works out just short of 44/1….
LUCKY 15 ACCA:
- BRAZIL AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE 62/25
- ARGENTINA 59/50
- FRANCE 133/100
- PORTUGAL TO WIN TO NIL 153/100.
- Acca Pays 44/1
