We’re half-way through Qatar 22 and it’s been a mixed bag for punters so far.
Very few teams have lit up the World Cup so far but France, Brazil and Portugal are sitting pretty, the only three nations to have booked their place in the last 16 after two matches.
Check out our stats and trends summary for the World Cup so far , where there’s some context required to make sense of the numbers of the tournament after 32 games.
There could barely be much more at stake today in Groups A and B. Of the eight teams in action only hosts Qatar cannot qualify for the knock-outs.
The Netherlands look most comfortable; at the top of their group and meeting the aforementioned Qataris who have looked a bit out of their depth so far.
A draw does for the Dutch so we might not see them going gung-ho in this one. Louis van Gaal might take the opportunity to give some of his squad a run out so keep an eye on the team news which might see the likes Weghorst and Klassen, who scored against Senegal, given a start.
Buck the trend of low-scoring first halfs in this one by backing Over 1.0/1.5 Goals at 1.950 on the Asian Handicap.
Second place in Group A looks a straight shoot-out between Ecuador and Senegal. The South Americans have the upper hand with a point advantage before the game starts and in Enner Valencia have the tournament’s current top scorer on three goals alongside Kylian Mbappe.

Match of the Day is at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan where Wales and England will battle it out in the Arabian heat.
The scenario for England is simple; win and they’ll top the group to set up a probable last 16 tie with Ecuador or Senegal. Things are a little more complicated for the Welsh.
To qualify, Wales must beat England and will be keeping a close eye on the match between the United States and Iran which they’d need to end a draw. If it doesn’t Wales must beat England by four goals to progress. Put simply, anything less than a win and Wales be on the flight home.
Rob Page’s men were really disappointing in their 2-0 defeat to Iran so huge improvement is required. They shouldn’t need any inspiration to turn in a performance against England in the circumstances.
Neither side will want to lose this one so it could make for a cagey affair especially in the early stages. We’ve profted by backing games to not see an early goal and the 5/6 on no goal in the first half hour appeals here.

Ever since the draw was made USA‘s clash was Iran looked like a bit of a political minefield, now with qualification at stake for both sides it’s a minefield of a football kind.
A win for either side would see them qualify whereas a draw for Iran could be good enough for them as long as Wales fail to beat England.
The Iranians were like rabbits caught in the headlights against England but performed much better against Wales and fully deserved their win. USA are unbeaten after their two games but two draws leave them needing a win to qualify.
The more experienced Carlos Quieroz could be the key this evening. There’s not much he hasn’t seen or done at World Cups and his Iranian side are capable of getting the job done against the Americans. Priced at 3/1 to win the Iranians can be backed at 4/5 not to lose.
