SlipsTips returns to share a selection from Scottish League One on Saturday, with Peterhead’s meeting with Falkirk under the microscope.
Peterhead vs Falkirk (Saturday, 15:00)
Falkirk will be aiming to record three successive wins across all competitions when they make the trip to Peterhead in Scottish League One on Saturday.
The Bairns have long been the big underachievers of the Scottish third tier in recent years, but they have definitely demonstrated some marked improvement under latest manager John McGlynn.
After collecting just one point from their opening two league games, Falkirk have won four of their six subsequent fixtures to move to within four points of the summit, with their most recent success a comfortable 2-0 win over Clyde.
As for bottom club Peterhead, they have shown signs of life of late, though their mini-resurgence did grind to a halt with a 2-0 defeat away to FC Edinburgh on Wednesday night.
Falkirk make the three-hour trek to Balmoor as general as general 4/6 shots but we can get some 85/100 (William Hill) on them to overcome a -0.75 start on the Asian Handicap and that looks like an enticing boost in price.
This selection would provide a full pay-out if the Falkirk triumph by two goals or more, with a half-stakes winner banked if the Bairns bag a victory by a one-goal margin.
As already alluded to, Falkirk finally appear to be moving in the right direction and they will fancy their chances of taking all three points when faced with a Peterhead team that have lost six of their opening nine league games of the season.
While the Blue Toon showed an abundance of fighting spirit to battle back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw at Dunfermline last Saturday, they were brought back down to earth at Meadowbank in midweek.
That loss last time out in the capital means Jim McInally’s men have conceded two or more goals in eight of their nine league games this season and such defensive fragility doesn’t bode well ahead of a visit from fast-improving Falkirk.
Given the Bairns superior quality, coupled with the possibility of part-time Peterhead feeling the effects of their energy draining midweek exertions, backing John McGlynn’s men to overcome a -0.75 hurdle on the Asian Handicap at 85/100 (William Hill) makes plenty of appeal.
Recommended Bets
- Falkirk -0.75 (Asian Handicap)– 85/100 (William Hill)
