Match of the Day is in North London this lunchtime at the Emirates where top-of-the-table Arsenal host rivals Spurs who currently occupy third place in the table.
It’s Tottenham who are unbeaten going in to the match despite not quite hitting the heights just yet this season. A 6-2 win over Leicester was arguably their best performance on the season and that co-incided with a scoring return to form by hat-trick hero Son Heung-min.
A note of caution on Spurs’ form is that 10 of their 17 points have come against four teams that currently occupy the bottom four positions in the league. Their toughest tests on paper have resulted in draws at West Ham and Chelsea.
Arsenal’s fixtures have been relatively kind too so far and a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford hinted at a familiar weakness against top six sides.
Home advantage shades this in the Gunners’ favour however – Spurs have won only two of their past 37 away meetings in this fixture – so the 11/10 on an Arsenal win feels like the best option.
Teams to look out for further down the leagues include Norwich who are in good form away to Blackpool who have won just one in their last six. A win for the Canaries is 10/11 whilst it’s 4/5 on them scoring two or more.
After a good start to the season Harrogate are finding things tough and are winless in their last seven in all competitions. Visitors Bradford City are making inroads at the top of the table and have picked up 12 points from their last six games. The Bantams look another side worth backing today at 10/11.
In Scotland we should be in for a cracker at Tynecastle. Hearts returned to a bit of form with two wins before the international break and will be confident of striking a blow against a Rangers side who might have one eye on their upcoming Battle of Britain against Liverpool in midweek.
A victory for the Jambos could see them leapfrog Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side if they win by two or more goals, but you have to go back to 2017 for the last time they managed that – a 4-1 win under the much-maligned Ian Cathro, against a Rangers side from which only James Tavernier survives.
Hearts can be backed around the 4/1 mark and there’ll be plenty keen to snap that up. Rangers are 7/10 which feels a little short at a ground where they’ve won two, lost two and drawn the other of their last five visits.
Clean sheets have been hard to come by for the Gers this season so we could see some goals in Edinburgh. BTTS is best priced at 7/10 with SBK, a little to skinny for a single so add in a card for each team on a Bet365 Bet Builder to take us to 5/6.
Celtic are at home so that means just one thing – corners. The Hoops will be out to right the wrongs of their 2-0 defeat to St Mirren a couple of weeks ago. No side has conceded more corners away from home than Motherwell and only Hibs have won more corners per game than Celtic.
They should win the corner count comfortably but Bet365 have it set ridiculously high at -7.0 for 11/10. Instead look for the Hoops to come out the traps quickly. A Celtic corner inside 10 minutes pays 4/6 and they’ve managed that on several occasions this season. The 3/1 on two more in the same period is also very appealing.
Aberdeen should be good acca material at 4/6 to beat Kilmarnock on Derek McInnes’ return to Pittodrie.
In League One Dunfermline have been backed all week at home to Peterhead and are as short as 1/5. Peterhead are conceding at a rate of almost three per game so it could be an opportunity for the shot-shy Pars to rack up a few goals. Over 2.5 goals combined with at least one first half goal for the league leaders pays 10/11.
Stranraer have shown some solid home form including a fine win over top-of-the-table Dumbarton. Bottom side Albion Rovers face the long trip to Stair Park and with just one win this season look unlikely to leave with anything. Back Stranraer at 20/21
