After delivering another winning selection on Wednesday night, SlipsTips is back to share a Booking Points bet from across two fixtures in Europe on Friday.
Mainz vs Hertha Berlin (Friday, 19:30)
Mainz host Hertha Berlin on Friday night in a meeting between two teams who have had contrasting starts to the Bundesliga season.
Bo Svensson’s side start the weekend in sixth place, having taken 10 points from a possible 18 thus far, although they were on the wrong end of a heavy 4-1 defeat at Hoffenheim last time out.
Hertha, on the other hand, are languishing directly above the relegation playoff spot, but they have banked four points from their last two outings.
As such, I suspect this contest could be closer than the odds suggest and I’m therefore going to throw 30+ Booking Points into the first half of a 5/6 (SkyBet) double.
Both of these teams are averaging north of two yellow cards per-game this season, with six of the pair’s 12 collective league games featuring a minimum of three match cards.
What’s more, referee Frank Willenborg has brandished three or more bookings in all but one of his last 13 Bundesliga assignments, and I see no reason to oppose a repeat in Rhineland.
Aston Villa vs Southampton (Friday, 20:00)
Both Aston Villa and Southampton will be looking to return to winning ways when the pair face off in the Premier League on Friday night.
I’ve already penned a separate match preview on this Villa Park showdown, but I’m also going to factor this fixture into the second-half of the aforementioned 5/6 (SkyBet) double.
Steven Gerrard’s side will be in good spirits, having held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw last time out, while the Saints have made a mixed start to the season, with their last outing ending in 1-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Given that both sides will be desperate for points with a view to moving up the standings, I’m more than happy to side with 30+ booking points in a game that should be played with plenty of intensity.
Four of Villa’s six league games this season have delivered 30+ Booking Points, while all six of Southampton’s top-flight tussles this term have broken the 30+ barrier.
While referee Tony Harrington is a standard-frequency card issuer, he has flashed three or more bookings in three of his four assignments this season so far, and he should be kept busy under the Villa Park lights.
