World Cup 2022 Betting Preview & Predictions
- World Cup 2022 Winner: Brazil @ 5/1 with Betfair Sportsbook
- World Cup 2022 Winner: Argentina @ 10/1 with William Hill
With the draw for the group stage of World Cup 2022 in Qatar having been concluded, now is a good time to have an early look at the contenders and latest World Cup betting odds for the finals.
When is the 2022 World Cup?
The finals are scheduled to take place from 21 November to 18 December 2022, with this being the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world.
Where is the 2022 World Cup?
The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar. The location, climate and the fact that the tournament will be held at around the midpoint of the domestic seasons in most countries around the world means that there are a number of additional factors at play in these finals compared to those previously.
Brazil World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 5/1
Brazil are the early favourites at 5/1 with Betfair and it’s easy to see why after they came through qualification in CONMEBOL unbeaten in their 17 matches, having scored 40 goals and conceded just five. There’s also now great depth available to coach Tite, they look strong in every department and there’s now far less reliance on Neymar to lead the line and to act as the talisman than was previously the case.
Brazil rarely encounters any significant obstacles navigating the group stage at World Cup finals and a draw that sees them up against Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G is one that should present relatively few problems.
Brazil to win – 5/1 at Betfair Sportsbook
France World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 13/2
Second favourites are the defending champions, France, at 13/2 with Betway.
The French have been drawn in Group D, alongside the AFC/CONMEBOL play-off winners (either Australia, UAE or Peru), Denmark and Tunisia. It’s a group they should have little trouble qualifying from, although the Danes are a very decent team as they showed at Euro 2020.
Like the Brazilians, France coach Didier Deschamps has a tremendous number of players to select from. They came through qualification at a canter, and will want to make up for their showing at Euro 2020, where they were eliminated by Switzerland in the last 16 in a penalty shoot-out.
Much, of course, will be expected of Kylian Mbappe, if France are to retain the trophy.
France to win – 13/2 at Betway Sports
England World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 7/1
Next up in the early World Cup 2022 betting odds lists are England, who can be backed at odds of 7/1 with Betfair Sportsbook.
England have been drawn in Group B, alongside Iran, USA and the winners of the UEFA Path A play-offs (Wales, Scotland or Ukraine). On paper that looks a relatively benign group, but it’s one with definite banana skin potential for Gareth Southgate’s team.
The defence against quality opposition remains a question for England, as does the lack of any reliable striker should the ever-prolific Harry Kane be unavailable.
England to win – 7/1 at Betfair Sportsbook
Spain World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 8/1
Spain are available at 8/1 with Betfair which looks a little on the short side given that they have been drawn in Group E alongside the winners of the CONCACAF/OFC play-off (either Costa Rica or New Zealand), Germany and Japan.
Spain were semi-finalists at Euro 2020, going out on penalties to eventual winners Italy. They qualified for Qatar comfortably enough and there is plenty of young talent at the disposal of coach Luis Enrique.
Spain to win – 8/1 at Betfair Sportsbook
Germany World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 11/1
Germany, who are 11/1 with SpreadEx, are a definite threat to Spain for top spot.
After a last 16 exit at Euro 2020, Germany had few problems coming through their World Cup qualifying group, although they didn’t face any major challenge. There’s a good mix of youth and experience available to Hansi Flick, and it never pays to underestimate the Germans.
Germany to win – 11/1 at SpreadEx
Japan World Cup 2022 Betting Odds
Japan are another team that’s capable of competing on their day and can make things difficult.
Japan to win – 300/1 at SpreadEx
Argentina World Cup 2022 Betting Odds – 10/1
Argentina are a 10/1 chance with William Hill and after years of struggling to find the right formation to accommodate their wealth of talented players, they finally seem to have hit upon a winning formula.
Argentina were unbeaten in qualifying (at the time of writing, they are undefeated in 31 matches) and conceded just eight goals in doing so, having tightened up considerably defensively. The draw in Group C doesn’t look too taxing either, with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland the teams they need to overcome.
Lionel Messi might be in the twilight of his career, but this Argentina squad might just be capable of securing the World Cup victory that has eluded him to date.
Argentina to win – 10/1 at William Hill
Belgium World Cup 2022 Betting Odds
Belgium can be backed at odds of 14/1 with Betway.
They should certainly come through Group F largely unscathed, with Canada, Morocco and Croatia their opponents, but the Red Devils have always fallen just short at the major tournaments with their “Golden Generation” and, now that many of those players are at the veteran stage, it’s difficult to believe that they can go all the way in Qatar.
Belgium to win – 14/1 at Betway Sports
Portugal World Cup 2022 Betting Odds
Portugal have arguably been dealt the toughest overall draw in Group H, where they will be up against Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.
That’s certainly not an easy route to the last 16, but Portugal are on offer at 12/1 with Betfair.
They missed out on automatic qualification after finishing runners-up to Serbia, but made amends in the play-offs with home wins over Turkey and North Macedonia (who had helpfully eliminated the European champions, Italy).
Cristiano Ronaldo might be edging towards 38 by the time of the finals, but there’s plenty of younger talent in the Portuguese ranks too. If they can come through the groups stage, there will be few teams who will want to face them in the knockout stage.
Portugal to win – 12/1 at Betfair Sportsbook
Netherlands World Cup 2022 Betting Odds
The last of leading contenders according to the bookmakers are the Netherlands, who are a 16/1 shot with Betfair.
They’ve been drawn in Group A, with the hosts Qatar, Ecuador and Senegal. It’s not the easiest of groups to come through and the Dutch, for all their talent, could be vulnerable to an early exit.
Netherlands to win – 16/1 at Betfair Sportsbook
