DUNFERMLINE have started the season encouragingly and should be too good for Montrose at an attractive 17/20.
The Pars have started the season with two wins out of two against Alloa at East End Park and FC Edinburgh at Meadowbank.
They have put their faith in James McPake to get them out of the hellhole that is Scottish football’s third tier at the first time of asking. They need only ask bitter rivals Falkirk how hard that is.
He hasn’t changed too much and has only brought in four players in the summer. One of those – Dundee United’s Chris Mochrie on loan – scored last week in the capital.
The Pars also had a decent League Cup section and only lost 1-0 at Premiership Ross County.
Montrose continue to punch above their weight and have started the season with a pair of goalless draws against Falkirk and Queen of the South.
But they might struggle to keep out the Fifers on Saturday.
ROSS COUNTY have won plaudits, but not points after two games, but they can win the battle of the basement teams in Paisley against St Mirren at 2/1.
Malky Mackay’s side outplayed Hearts at Tynecastle for an hour and ran Celtic close before a couple of late collapses. As usual, he’s utilised his extensive contacts book to bring in plenty of players very few fans have heard of…but the vast majority of them will be gems.
County have goals in them and nearly always score. The Staggies have plenty of attacking options from the ten players they brought in this summer.
All doesn’t look well at St Mirren. Stephen Robinson has undergone a squad overhaul, but their League Cup campaign was a disgrace and they have lost their first two Premiership games to a poor Motherwell side before being thumped by Aberdeen.
County look like they could be value.
CALEY THISTLE have been held to draws in both their opening games of the season, but can get their Championship campaign up and running by beating Cove Rangers in Inverness.
Billy Dodds’ side have drawn with Queen’s Park and at Arbroath, but they don’t appear to have been impacted by last season’s play-off final defeat to St Johnstone.
Cove beat Raith on their first day of the season, but slumped to a surprise defeat last week at Morton and ICT can get their first win of the season on Saturday at odds-against.
