At 28/1 Bournemouth are among the biggest priced outsiders ever in the Premier League this afternoon at Manchester City.
It’s unfair on the Cherries but their recent record against City doesn’t offer much hope. They’ve lost all 10 of their previous meetings, shipping 27 goals and scoring just five. It’ll be one-way traffic this afternoon but it’s hard to find some value. Even Erling Haaland is a ridiculous 2/5 to score anytime – have you ever seen a player at such a short price to score?
But backing him to score first and City to win pays 15/8. Still ridiculously short but it might be as good as it gets.
We highlighted last week that Newcastle are going to be one to watch this season. They started with a good 2-0 win over Forest last week and look a touch over-priced at Brighton today. The Seagulls recorded a brilliant win at Old Trafford last week but Man United are in such a state that it’s hard to read too much in to that win. Newcastle look one for the longshot accas at 2/1.
We also highlighted the apparent turmoil at Leicester last weekend. They raced into a two-goal lead before chucking it away against Brentford. They look vulnerable against Arsenal this afternoon who are admittedly a short price at just 8/15 but should be good for the three points.
In the Scottish Premiership, early indications are that Aberdeen have got their sh*t together this season. A solid League Cup group stage was followed up by a credible 2-0 defeat to Celtic on flag day, and last week’s eye-catching 4-1 win over St Mirren has made people sit up and take notice.
They host Motherwell today who, on Thursday, handed the reigns to Steven Hammell following the departure of Graham Alexander. Hammel knows the club inside out having made almost 600 appearances for the Steelmen but it’s his first gig as manager so it doesn’t come without risk.
These are the kind of games the Dons need to get back to winning consistently if they’re to re-establish themselves as the third-best team in Scotland. 4/5 on the home win is very backable based on both sides recent results.
Rangers should also be good for a win to nil against St Johnstone. The Saintees managed to find two goals at Fir Park last weekend but like last season finding the back of the net is going to be a struggle this season. Rangers are 8/11 to win to nil.
Almost every side in the Championship looks evenly matched and so far 45% of the matches played have finished all square. Only Cove Rangers and Dundee have won by more than a single goal and it could be more of the same this afternoon. It could be worth perming three draws from the four games and of course a small stake on all four finishing levels today.
In League One Falkirk have had a disastrous start to their campaign under John McGlynn. An opening day stalemate with Montrose was followed by a 4-0 drubbing at Airdrieonians but they can kick-start their season with a win at home to Peterhead today.
Jim McInally’s side rallied from two-down last weekend to claim a point against Clyde, in doing so scoring their first goals of the season after six matches. But they’re still tipped to struggle this season and the 8/11 on the Bairns looks a gift.
