PARTICK THISTLE put down a marker last week with a win on the opening day of the season at Dundee and can make it two out of two when Hamilton Accies visit.
Ian McCall’s men ran out of steam last season and never looked like they believed they could win the play-offs. However, the Jags could have a real go at it this season judging by their signings, early season form in the League Cup and last week.
The Firhill men have brought in the likes of Danny Mullen, who is ideally suited for the Championship, Stevie Lawless, Harry Milne and Jack McMillan. The exciting Tony Weston on loan from Rangers gives them flair from the bench too.
They should have a real goal threat and have support for Brian Graham up front on both wings.
John Rankin would have been pleased with a point with ten men last week against Morton, but they really have struggled to get numbers this season.
He’s only managed to make a couple of signings and they look more likely to be concentrating on survival rather than a return to the top flight.
Thistle look a cracking wager at 20/21.
ABERDEEN barely laid a glove on Celtic last week, but they are better than that and can get their season off and running by beating St Mirren at Pittodrie at 21/20.
It’s a new look Dons side this season and it was always going to be a big ask to see them gel instantly and get something out of the Parkhead flag day.
But they still missed a sitter through Jonny Hayes and manager Jim Goodwin has real attacking options now throughout the team. The return of defender Liam Scales – who couldn’t play against parent club Celtic last week – will push Ross McCrorie into midfield and that should make a big difference.
St Mirren dominated Motherwell last week, but they are already displaying signs that goals will be a problem for them this season.
And Goodwin can get a victory against his former club on Saturday.
DUMBARTON look too big at 6/4 to win at Albion Rovers.
The Sons got off to the best possible start last week when they scored twice in the opening five minutes of the League Two season at home to Stirling Albion.
Stevie Farrell’s side have been fancied for a return to League One and need to go to places like Coatbridge and win.
Rovers were fortunate to escape with only a one-goal defeat at Stenhousemuir last week and Dumbarton look a nice price here.
