There’s a busy midweek of European Qualifiers ahead but Watford and Sheffield United get the week kicked-off in front of the cameras tonight at Vicarage Road.
Rob Edwards became Watford’s 16th manager (not including two caretaker spells by Hayden Mullins) in 10 years. A poisoned chalice if ever there was one. And the former Forest Green gaffer’s job will simply be to get them back to the Premier League as quickly as he can.
But this league is notoriously difficult and full of clubs who believe they belong in the top flight, such as tonight’s opponents Sheffield United who missed out on dining at the top table following a painful play-off defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Blades go into the season with largely the same squad but the Hornets have seen no fewer than 20 players exit in the Summer so it’s difficult to draw too many parallels with last season’s form.
Scoring goals was a bit of an issue for Watford who’ve failed to win at home since November, and Celtic fans looking south of the border would’ve raised an eyebrow at misfit striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo being signed for around £5m as the answer to their goalscoring problems. So this could be a low-scoring affair. Under 2.5 goals is favoured at 8/11 while No to BTTS is 5/6 and a goalless first half pays 13/8.
To further add weight to the low-scoring angle, only one of 10 Championship matches at the weekend went Over 2.5 Goals, Eight teams failed to score at all, BTTS landed in just four of the ten and only two of twenty teams in action so far scored more than once.
Well done to The Caddy once again. No big winner this weekend but some very tidy e/w returns with 40/1 David Law and 22/1 Adrian Otaegui both tying 3rd and yet another matchbet Nap winner thanks to David Law beat Callum Shinkwin in their matchbet head-to-head.
