This time last year Aberdeen were preparing for a tilt at European football which would eventually falter at the final hurdle of the play-off round in the Europa Conference League after good wins over Swedish and Icelandic opposition.
Today they face a trip to lowly Peterhead in the Scottish League Cup, a sobering consequence of their 10th place finish in last season’s Premiership table.
Jim Goodwin replaced Stephen Glass mid-season but he failed to make much of an impact. A few players have come and gone in the transfer window but it’s hard to tell if the Dons are currently in a better or worse position for it. Either way he’ll need to get off to a good start or else the vultures will start to circle.
His side are too short at just 2/7 to win at Peterhead. They’ll likely win but until we see the cut of Aberdeen’s gib this season that price is too short on the win alone.
North Macedonian international striker Bojan Miovski will miss out due to work permit issues and there’s rumour of Lewis Ferguson on the brink of a move to Italy so there might be value in forward Christian Ramirez who finished second top scorer last seas0n. He’s 4/5 to score any time.
Dutch youngester Vicente Besuijen could also be one to watch. He notched a couple in a friendly in midweek and is 6/4 to score this afternoon.
Goalscorers aside, and if we want to get on an Aberdeen win a Dons win to nil could be the best value option at 5/4.

All eyes will be on Centre Court today for what promises to be an intriguing men’s final between arguably one of the greatest players in the history of the game and one of the most controversial tennis has ever seen.
One things for sure, it won’t be dull. Novak Djokovic has shown some signs of fatigue, both mentally and physically on his way to the final while opponent Nick Kyrgios has enthralled and enraged in equal measure as he battled to his first grand slam final of his career.
The Aussie benefitted from an untimely injury to Rafael Nadal, which saw him skip to the final and enjoy the advantage of three day’s rest. Kyrgios has seldom been as focused at a major tournament and he could give Djokovic a bloody nose this afternoon but our tipster The Ace tipped the Serb from the outset and he’s backing him to get the job done in hotly contested finale as SW19.
