King’s Stand Stakes (Tuesday 14th June)
Royal Ascot racegoers can look forward to a very international renewal with the three market leaders coming from the US, Australia and Ireland respectively. The reappearance win of Golden Pal (15/8 at Betfair) at Keeneland was most impressive and he’ll take some catching but if any horse can reel him in then it’s NATURE STRIP (7/2 at Betfair) and he can give Australia another victory here.
An eight-time Group 1 winner, he was unlucky not to make that nine when being bumped at the start in the Lighting Stakes back in February, and he made no mistake when a dominant winner of the TJ Smith Stakes for the third time at Randwick when last seen despite being drawn in 11 around the bend. He was extremely strong at the end there, suggesting that Ascot’s stiff 5 furlongs should be no problem, and if he shows his best form here then he’ll set a high standard.
Golden Pal will take some catching but mustn’t overrace, and A Case Of You (12/1 with William Hill) and Romantic Proposal (also 12/1 with William Hill) have strong each-way chances.

Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Wednesday 15th June)
BAY BRIDGE (13/8 with 888sport) is stepping up in class here – he’s likely to face at least four or five Group 1 winners – but he looked like a group one horse in waiting when smashing up his rivals in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown and that may not be the limit of his ability. He’s improved 22lbs in the space of just over a year and Ascot promises to bring out more improvement from Sir Michael Stoute’s four-year-old.
Adayar (3/1 Betfair exchange) was a brilliant winner of the Derby and King George, ran a creditable race in the Arc last season, but he missed the Coronation Cup before this and it’s possible he will be better for the run.
Shahryar (3/1 generally) a game winner of the Sheema Classic, could be the biggest threat whilst State of Rest (ahead of Lord North) who came just too late at the Curragh in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, could be suited by Ascot.
BAY BRIDGE to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at 13/8 at 888sport
Ascot Gold Cup (Thursday 16th June)
If the main protagonists turn up then this could be one of the races of the week. Kyprios (7/2 at Betfair) was hugely impressive in the Vintage Crop Stakes and the Levmoss Stakes, whilst Stradivarius (4/1 with Boylesports) looked as good as even when taking the Yorkshire Cup on his return.
Both could have some trouble getting to grips with TRUESHAN (7/2 at William Hill) if Alan King’s Charge is allowed to take his chance. Assuming that the ground is good to soft (and the monthly forecasts suggest that there’ll be rain the week before the Royal Meeting and cool temperatures all week) then he’ll take a massive amount of beating on his wins in the Goodwood Cup, Prix du Cadran, or Long Distance Cup back on Champions Day, and he might not have peaked yet.
TRUESHAN to win the Ascot Gold Cup at 7/2 at William Hill
Coronation Stakes (Friday 17th June)
HOMELESS SONGS (5/4 at William Hill) was absolutely brilliant when tearing apart her rivals in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and if she’s on that sort of form again then it will take a seriously good performance to beat her.
The way she put five and a half lengths between herself and 1,000 Guineas third & Oaks winner Tuesday suggests that she has the beating of 1,000 Guineas winner Cachet, Pouliches winner Mangoustine, and Inspiral – for all her Fillies Mile form is top notch – is facing a very tough seasonal reappearance here.
It would be unwise to rule out Discoveries, who disappointed at Newmarket but has some of the best two-year-old form in the field.
