It’s Eurovision time again!
The Eurovision semi-finals take place on Tuesday and Thursday. The grand final will be staged on Saturday. Commentating on the semi-final shows for the BBC will be TV presenter Rylan Clark and Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills. For a 14th time, the final will have the irrepressible Graham Norton on the microphone. All three are openly gay – which is in keeping with much of the Eurovision theme.
Amanda Holden has been ousted as the spokesperson for the UK. Her place has been taken by presenter AJ Odudu. This will be the first time the UK’s telephone voting scores have been presented by a black person.
There are no new countries amongst the 40 acts taking part in the 2022 Eurovision. Naturally, Russia do not return. Armenia and Montenegro do return after a short absence. At betting odds of 250/1 and 400/1 respectively, they may have well stayed at home.
Switzerland to Find Friends in Tuesday’s First Semi
Ukraine, top-priced 8/13 to win the contest outright, go in Tuesday’s first semi-final. While their price looks short given their song is decidedly dodgy – and may not fare well amongst the judge’s vote – they are near formalities to proceed to the finals.
The best Eurovision bet in this first semi-final – and a reminder that the winners of the semi-finals are not announced until after Saturday’s final – is Switzerland to qualify for Saturday’s decider.
Their representative, Marius Bear will appeal to the camp section of the voting audience and Switzerland has fared well in recent Eurovision’s finishing fourth in 2019 and third in 2021. A neutral stance on everything seems to serve them well!
Bear’s song has a broken heart theme and – in the context of rival acts singing things such as ‘Eat Green Vegetables’ – he should receive the bulk of votes from people looking for a sad love song to support.

San Marino Dressed to Kill the Second Semi-Final
San Marino has been smashed in from 2/1 into even-money to make its way into the final. The weight of money came after its act, 31-year-old Achille Lauro performed his dress rehearsal. Clad in an all-in-one outfit made of see-through tights, he is sure to go down like a house on fire with phone voters. With definite similarities to last year’s winning Italian act, this is a strong fancy.

Eurovision Final a Dream for Each-Way Thieves
The final itself – something Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the UK are fast-tracked into – could be a landslide for Ukraine. The potential for a political vote has seen them shrink into outrageous Eurovision odds of just 4/7.
Italy at 6/1 and the UK and Sweden follow at 7/1. At 1/4 the odds for four places, there is an argument to back them all each-way. All three have a strong case, two should at least claim the each-way money and should the predicted sympathy votes not arrive for Ukraine, there is a chance of backing the winner.
But we remain hung-up on San Marino and Betfair’s 8/1 about the tiny country finishing in the top-10 could pay big dividends for small stakes.

Estonia to Give Baltic Rivals a Cold Shoulder
If you are happy to bet at short odds, then the suggestion is to head over to Betfair and back Estonia to be the ‘Top Baltic Country’ at 4/7.
They only have Latvia and Lithuania to beat and there’s a real chance the bet could be a winner before the finals show even starts!
