The PGA Tour continues this week with the AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, Texas.
The 156 field, with the top 65 including ties making the cut, will all be competing for a share of the $9.1m prize purse with the winner collecting the title and a cheque for $1.46m.
K.H. Lee returns to defend his title where he went as low as -25 last year with the winning scorecard so expect a birdie fest yet again this year .
TPC Craig Ranch will be playing 7,468 yards long this week, it’s a par 72, parkland lay out with bentgrass greens where the key attribute will be approach play and accuracy.
Scottie Scheffler, the world number one, will be looking to make it five victories in seven, truly phenomenal, he could be the one they all have to beat yet again.
He is currently the 10/1 favourite and it’s no wonder the firms aren’t taking any chances, he’s on fire.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout with some clouds in between. The breeze is expected to peak at around 27mph on Thursday but much calmer over the weekend.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 12.45pm GMT on Thursday afternoon.
So let’s move on with this weeks selections for the AT&T Byron Nelson.
Will Zalatoris
For my first and main selection I’m going to point you in the direction of Will Zalatoris 22/1 EW Bet365.
The 25 year old from San Francisco, California resides in Texas these days so this can be looked upon as a home venue for Zalatoris.
My role is to give you the best possible chance and Will Zalatoris ticks every box for me this week in Texas. Just check this out, in the seven events that Zalatoris has played this year this talented kid has finished inside the Top 10 on no less than four occasions.
T6th last time out at Augusta at The Masters was an absolutely incredible effort. He was also T5th at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay, T6th at The American Express with his best effort this year being runner-up when beaten in a play off to eventual winner Luke List at the Farmers Insurance.
Now it’s not just only these impressive results for Zalatoris that have caught my eye but also the fact that he is 2nd in the PGA Tour this year SG Approach to green. These stats could prove pivotal at TPC Craig Ranch this weekend and if Zalatoris arrives here producing that kind of form then he will almost surely still be competing and in contention on at Sundays final round, possibly on his way to being crowned with his maiden PGA title, a well deserved one at that.
Aaron Wise
For my next suggestion I’m going to single out Aaron Wise 55/1 EW Sportnation.
The 25 year old youngster from Cape Town, South Africa was sublime last time out at the Mexico Open where he finished in 6th place. Wise should come to Texas full of confidence on the back of that effort.
Course management and conditions should be similar this week to Vidanta so Wise can take advantage. He is currently ranked 20th on the PGA Tour greens in regulation and 22nd with scoring average at 70.285.
Wise’s only PGA Tour win came at this event in 2018 although it was on a different golf course at Trinity Forest but it’s clear he enjoys this tournament.
If Wise can improve with the putter this week then this will for sure enhance his chances. It’s probably the weakest part of his game at the moment.
If Wise can turn up with a hot putter this week along with recent performances and stats then this could all come together and we may see Aaron Wise double up with not just two PGA victories but two AT & T Byron Nelson titles.
Sam Burns
For my next pick I’m really liking the look of a player who has been so kind to us over the past year, Sam Burns 20/1 EW Bet365.
Another youngster from Louisiana at only 25 years old, that’s all three of my selections this week, I wonder if we can get a price for a 25yrs old to win this weeks AT&T Byron Nelson?
Burns has produced the goods for both us and him on numerous occasions now and this week could be no different. His form last year was phenomenal and he was flashing up all over my radar. He has already won an event this year when successfully defending his title at the Valspar Championship.
Burns now finds himself in an elite group as he is one of the Top 10 players on the planet and it will only get better for this talented kid.
Sam Burns has now made his breakthrough and won three PGA titles since last year, two of them at the Valspar Championship as mentioned above with the other being the Sanderson Farms Championship. Sam Burns finished runner up at this event last year and could easily go one better this year on a track that’s all set up for his game.
Jason Day v Kevin Kisner
For my final selection it’s the customary matchbet and for the Nap this week I’m going to advise Jason Day to get the better of Kevin Kisner. Jason Day seems to be firing on all cylinders again so I’ll make this another 5pts Super Nap 10/11 Betfair.
