IT’S an early start in the east-end of Glasgow today for the final meeting of the season between Celtic and Rangers and it’s simply a must-win for the blue half of the city.
Celtic’s six point lead coupled with a vastly superior goal difference means that the Premiership trophy will be all but draped in green ribbons once more if they can beat their rivals for a third time this season. That would put the Hoops nine points clear with just three to play and even the most optmistic bluenose would have to concede the title.
Rangers go in to the game off the back of a 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig on Thursday evening which means it’s very much game-on at Ibrox for the return leg on Thursday. That will be a massive game for the Gers but there’s no question of Giovanni van Bronckhorst prioritising it ahead of today’s clash at Celtic Park.
Taking home advantage, Rangers European exertions and the fact they’ll be without Morelos, Helander, Hagi, Ramsay, Roofe and Balogun in to account the bookies make Celtic clear favourites to win at 5/6. They blew Rangers away in the first half when they last hosted their rivals, racing in to a 3-0 lead which they saw out for the remainder of the match and Ange Postecoglou will be hoping for a quick start once more.
It’s 7/5 that Celtic will be leading at the break or just 1/2 to the they score the first goal. The Bhoys have led at half-time in 23 of their 34 league games and while this match doesn’t compare to any other they do like to start fast and have led after the first 45 in two of the four games against Rangers this season.
Cards are often a popular market in this match and the man in middle this lunchtime is John Beaton. This will be fourth time the whistler has taken charge of this fixture and on each of the previous three occasions he’s handed out just four yellow cards and no reds. This season he’s averaging 3.82 cards per game so with that in mind the 5/6 on Under 5.5 cards could be the best approach.
Everton’s match against Chelsea this afternoon has taken on even more importance since Burnley’s late comeback at Watford took them five points clear of the Toffees. The prospect of Everton dropping in to the Championship is very real and they’re just 4/6 now to be relegated. Burnley are now as big as 4/1 to go down with Leeds at 9/4.
With Everton desperate for the points and Chelsea in untrustworthy form it’s really tough to call this one. Everton have won the last three meetings at Goodison so the 4/1 available on the home win might just be worth a punt.
West Ham and Leicester could have one eye on their European semi-final second legs this week. The Foxes in particular look to have little left to play for in the Premier League and Brendan Rodgers is likely to make changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Roma.
That should hand the advantage to Spurs who battling with Arsenal for fourth place and a Champions League spot. A Spurs win is just 4/9 but Bet365 have boosted Spurs/Spurs on the HT/FT market from 6/5 to 13/10.
