Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the Italian Serie A and the French Ligue 1 and I’ve a game from each league to give us a solid looking double.
Napoli vs Sassuolo

After seeing their title hopes all but end last time out, Napoli will look to try and secure third spot, as they host mid-table Sassuolo at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The hosts are currently a point above fourth-placed Juventus, while the visitors are lying in 10th position.
Despite going two goals ahead, Napoli inexplicably conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes to lose 3-2 away at to an Empoli side who were winless in their previous 16 league fixtures. Luciano Spalletti’s men have won just three of their previous 10 at the Maradona, with all three wins coming against bottom-half sides. Napoli have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 10 Serie A fixtures, with The Partenopei also conceding in nine of their last 10 at home. The Neapolitans have found the back of the net in 30/34 of their Serie A fixtures this season, scoring in 14 of their last 15 in the league.
Despite taking the lead, Sassuolo have now lost three of their last four matches, as they were defeated 1-2 at home to Juventus last time out, with Moise Kean’s late winner bringing up Mondays Bet of the Day. Alessio Dionisi’s visitors have won just three of their last 10 fixtures on the road, losing each of their last two against both Cagliari and Lazio. Sassuolo have recorded just three clean sheets from their opening 34 Serie A fixtures, with just one of those coming on the road. The Neroverdi have found the back of the net in 29/34 of their league fixtures this season and only league leaders Milan (35) have scored more goals on their travels than Sassuolo (33).
Rennes vs Saint-Étienne

Two sides needing points for very different reasons meet at Roazhon Park, as Champions League chasing Rennes host relegation-threatened Saint-Étienne. The hosts are currently in third, but are only above fourth-placed Monaco on goal difference and while the visitors may be four points clear of 19th-placed Bordeaux, they remain two points adrift of automatic safety.
Rennes bounced back from successive defeats against the two sides directly below them in the table, by thumping lowly Lorient 5-0, despite playing with 10-men for the last half hour or so. That win now means Bruno Génésio’s men have won 11 of their last 14 at home, including six of their last seven. Rennes have found the back of the net in 29/34 of their Ligue 1 fixtures this season and only champions PSG (79) have scored more than their tally of 75. 46 of those goals that Les Rouge et Noir have scored this season have come at home, with Rennes scoring on multiple occasions in each of their last seven at home, scoring 27 times.
Saint-Étienne failed to extend their unbeaten run to three last time out, as they were beaten 1-4 at home to an in-form Monaco side. Pascal Dupraz side have won just three times on their travels this season, with only Lorient (11) and Bordeaux (12) collecting fewer points than the 13 Saint-Étienne have collected. Les Verts have recorded just four clean sheets from their opening 34 Ligue 1 matches, with three of those coming against sides currently positioned in 15th and below. Only Bordeaux (84) have conceded more goals than Saint-Étienne’s tally of 68, with 17 of those coming in their last five matches.
Bet of the Day
Despite neither Napoli or Sassuolo coming into this fixture in great form, I’m expecting an entertaining encounter with plenty of goal-mouth action. Luciano Spalletti’s hosts have conceded in each of their last 10 in Serie A and I can’t see them shutting out a Sassuolo side that’s scored in 29/34 of their matches this season and who are the second-highest scorers away from home. However, the Neroverdi have recorded just three clean sheets all season and given the hosts have only failed to score four times in the league this season, we should see both sides net in Naples.
Both Rennes and Saint-Étienne need points for different reasons but it’s the hosts who I’m keen to get onside here. Bruno Génésio’s hosts have won 11 of their last 14 at home, including six of their last seven and should be too strong for a Saint-Étienne side with the third-worst away record in Ligue 1. Rennes have found the back of the net on multiple occasions in each of their last seven at home, scoring 27 goals and should manage another brace against a Saint-Étienne side that’s has the second-worst defensive record in the league and who have conceded 17 goals in their last five matches.
