Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the Portuguese second-tier and the Dutch Eredivisie and I’ve a game from each league to give us a solid looking double.
Chaves vs Académica
🇵🇹 Liga Portugal 2
⏰ Saturday 23rd April, 14:00
Chaves will look to keep the pressure on the top two, as they host already relegated Académica at the Estádio Municipal de Chaves. The hosts are third, just three points behind league leaders Rio Ave, whilst the visitors will finish bottom.
Chaves secured their third successive win last time out, as they won 1-0 at home to Sporting Covilhã. Chaves have now lost just one of their last 18 fixtures in the league, winning 13 of them (W13-D4-L1). Chaves have also lost just once at home this season, with Vitor Campelos’s side winning eight and drawing one of their last nine at home. The Flavienses are the leagues joint-top scorers at home, finding the back of the net 28 times in their opening 15 fixtures.
Académica secured just their second point in their last nine matches, as they drew 0-0 at home to mid-table Penafiel. No side has collected fewer points on their travels than Académica, with Zé Gomes’s visitors collecting just six points from a possible 45 (W1-D3-L11). The Briosa have kept just four clean sheets so far this season and have the leagues leakiest defence, conceding 55 goals in just 30 matches, with 31 of them coming when playing away from home.
Cambuur vs PSV
🇳🇱 Eredivisie
⏰ Saturday 23rd April, 20:00
PSV will look to keep pace with league leaders Ajax, as they take on Cambuur at the Cambuur Stadion. The hosts are currently in 12th, eight points clear of the relegation playoff spot, whilst the visitors are second, four points behind Ajax.
Cambuur saw their losing run extend to five matches last time out, as they lost 1-0 away to Vitesse. Henk de Jong’s side have now won just one of their last 13 matches in the Eredivisie, losing eight of their last nine. No side has kept fewer clean sheets in the Eredivisie than Cambuur (4), with just one of those coming at home. The Yellow-Blues have the joint-worst defensive record in the Eredivisie this season, conceding 61 goals from their opening 29 fixtures.
Prior to their 2-1 win in the final of the KNVB cup against Ajax, PSV got back to winning ways in the Eredivisie, as they defeated RKC 2-0 at home in the league. Roger Schmidt’s side come into this having won seven of their last eight matches in the league, with the exception being a 3-3 draw away at Twente when being three goals down. The Rood-witten have found the back of the net in 27/29 of their league fixtures this season, finding the back of the net 73 times, only Ajax (85) have scored more.
Bet of the Day
Chaves are just two points outside the automatic promotion places and will fancy their chances of collecting all three points at home to already-relegated Académica. Chaves have won eight of their last nine at home and should collect all three points at home to an Académica side that’s collected just six points on their travels this season.
PSV come into this having won seven and drew one of their last eight in the Eredivisie and should be too strong for a Cambuur side that’s lost eight of their last nine Eredivisie matches. PSV have scored on multiple occasions in 21 of their 29 Eredivisie fixtures this season and I’m happy to add them in to score at least twice alongside a win for the Eindhoven based club.
