Whilst Kilmarnock were favourites with most punters to bounce straight back up to the top flight as Championship winners, few, if any would’ve predicted Arbroath as their title challengers at the start of the season.
34 games later and it effectively boils down to 90 minutes at Rugby Park tonight. Killie lead by a single point and with just two games remaining a win would secure the title and Premiership football once more. A draw would take things to the final day of the season when Killie visit Raith Rovers and Arbroath host Morton, whereas a win for Dick Campbell’s part-timers would really put the cat among the pigeons, taking the Red Lichties top of the table by two points and with a superior goal difference.
A near capacity crowd is expected and it’ll be a proper nail-biter that should be well worth a watch on BBC Scotland or BBC iPlayer tonight.
The bookies make Derek McInnes side even money favourites to win the three points but it would be crazy to write-off Arbroath at 13/5. Campbell’s men have refused to go away this season and even last weekend when they went a goal behind to Queen of the South they bounced back to thump them 5-1 to take advantage of Kilmarnock’s slip up the night before.
That defeat up at Inverness would’ve been a sore one for Killie and it’ll be fascinating to see how the nerves hold up tonight. It could be tight affair in line with the three previous meetings this season which have ended 0-0, 1-0 and 1-0, with both wins in Arbroath’s favour.
Under 2.5 Goals pays just 4/7 and Under 1.5 goals is 13/8 but you can back Under 2.0 on the Asian Goal line at even money, meaning you get your money back if there’s two goals in the game. A goal-less first half also appeals at 6/4.
In the Netherlands FC Twente are finishing the season strongly and could yet catch Feyenoord in third. They should be too strong for 16th place Sparta Rotterdam at 11/20.
Pair them up with top of the table Derry City who host winless UCD in the Irish top flight for a solid looking Double at just over 4/5.
