Friday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Dutch second tier and there’s two sides in the hunt for promotion that are at home that I fancy to have too much firepower for their lowly opponents.
ADO Den Haag vs Helmond Sport

ADO Den Haag will look to stay in contention for promotion back to the Eredivisie, as they host bottom side Helmond Sport at the Cars Jeans Stadion. The hosts are currently in seventh position, nine points behind second-placed Volendam, but do have a game in hand on all the sides above them, whilst the visitors are seven points adrift of 19th-placed Jong Utrecht.
ADO Den Haag bounced back from their 3-1 defeat away to Dordrecht, by emphatically defeating VVV Venlo 0-5 last time out. Giovanni Franken’s side have one of the best home records in the division, with them having W10-D2-L3, winning 5/6 when hosting sides in the bottom half. Only Excelsior (73) and Jong Ajax (72) have scored more goals in the Eerste Divisie than ADO, with them finding the back of the net on 69 occasions. The club from The Hague have found the back of the net in 13/15 of their home fixtures this season, scoring on multiple occasions in 11 of those, including in all six games when facing sides in the bottom half.
Helmond Sport lost 1-2 at home to fellow strugglers MVV last time out, meaning the bottom side have now lost 10 of their last 13 in the league, as well as five of their last six. Wil Boessen’s side have lost five of their last six away from home and only Dordrecht (11) have collected fewer points on their travels than Helmond’s tally of 12. Helmond have recorded seven clean sheets this season but just one of those have come in their last 14 matches. Helmond have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven away from home, with the Kattenmeppers conceding 17 goals on that run.
Excelsior vs Telstar

Excelsior will look to keep the pressure on the top-two, as they host lowly Telstar at the Van Donge & De Roo Stadion. The hosts are currently third, three points behind second-placed Volendam, while the visitors are 17th, just a point above 19th-placed Jong Utrecht.
Excelsior saw their seven-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out, as they were surprisingly beaten 3-0 by mid-table Almere City. Excelsior come into this having won each of their last four at home and have a good record when hosting bottom-half sides, with them posting a record of W6-D1-L1. Marinus Dijkhuizen’s side have found the back of the net in 28/33 of their league fixtures this season and are the divisions highest-scorers, finding the back of the net 73 times. The Karlingers have scored on multiple occasions in 12 of their last 14 at home, scoring three or more in eight of them.
Telstar losing run was extended to three matches last time out, as they lost 1-2 at home to 14th-placed Den Bosch. In fact, Telstar have won just one of their last 10 in the Eerste Divisie, losing five of their last six. Andries Jonker’s visitors have failed to win any of their last 10 away from home (W0-D5-L5), a run stretching back to the end of October. Telstar have kept just three clean sheet on their travels this season, with just one of those coming in their last 11 away trips. The White Lions have conceded on multiple occasions in 10/15 away from this season, including in five of their last six.
Bet of the Day
ADO Den Haag have took 32 points from a possible 45 at home this season and they should collect another three points at home to bottom side Helmond Sport. Giovanni Franken’s hosts have scored on multiple occasions in 11/15 at home this season, including in all six against bottom half sides and I’m backing them to score another brace against a Helmond side that’s conceded 16 goals in their last six matches away from home.
Excelsior saw their seven-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out but they should get back to winning ways at home to a struggling Telstar side. The Rotterdam side have scored on multiple occasions in 12 of their last 14 at home and I’m also backing them to score another brace against a Telstar side that’s lost five of their last six and who have conceded two or more in eight of their last nine Eerste Divisie matches.
