Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Conference League and there’s a match that stands out to me for goals.
Leicester City vs PSV
🇪🇺 Conference League
⏰ Thursday 7th April, 20:00
Leicester City host Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Conference League quarter-final at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening.
After finishing third in their Europa League group, behind both Spartak Moskva and Napoli respectively, Leicester swept aside Danish side Randers 7-2 on aggregate and then despite losing the second leg 2-1 in Brittany, they defeated high-flying Rennes 3-2 on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals. Brendan Rodgers side come into this having collected 10 points from their last five matches in the Premier League, including an impressive 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday. Leicester have found the back of the net in 23/28 of their Premier League matches this season, as well as finding the back of the net in 9/10 of their European fixtures, scoring 22 times. The Foxes have struggled for clean sheets this season, keeping just six in their 38 league and European matches combined.
PSV also finished third in their Europa League group, behind both Monaco and Real Sociedad respectively. They then edged past Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv and despite drawing 4-4 in the first leg at home to Copenhagen in the last round, they knocked the Danish side out following an emphatic 0-4 win at Parken Stadium. Roger Schmidt saw his sides six-match winning run in the Eredivisie come to an end last time out, as they had to come from three down to salvage a point. The Boeren have found the back of the net in all bar two of their Eredivisie matches this season, finding the back of the net 71 times. The Eindhoven club have struggled for clean sheets this term conceding in 20/28 of their Eredivisie matches.
Bet of the Day
Both Leicester and PSV are known for their attacking style of play and I’m expecting to see some goals at the King Power. As well as finding the back of the net in 23/28 of their Premier League fixtures this season, The Foxes have scored in 9/10 of their European matches, scoring 22 goals and they should get on the scoresheet against a PSV side that’s conceded in 20/28 of their Eredivisie matches this season. However, Brendan Rodgers side have kept just six clean sheets in league and Europe this season, with just one of those coming in Europe and I can’t see a PSV side that’s scored in 26/28 of their Eredivisie matches and who scored eight goals over two legs against Copenhagen in the last round not scoring in the East Midlands. Given the attacking quality on show and how vulnerable both are defensively, I’m happy to back over 2.5 goals with both sides contributing in what should be an entertaining match.
