Jurgen Klopp plans for his side to be ‘as annoying as possible‘ to Manchester City in title race and the Reds can pile the pressure on their rivals with a win at the Etihad that would take them just one point behind the champions.
Tonight’s opponents, Arsenal, still seem to have a mental block when it comes to playing the top sides . In seven games against the other teams currently in the top six they’ve taken just three points, that a 2-0 win over West Ham. You have to go back to July 2020 for the Gunners’ last win in this fixture, their only win over 90 minutes against Liverpool in 18 attempts.
However, after five wins on the spin Arsenal come in to the game in good shape and tonight will give us an indication of how far they’ve progressed under Mikel Arteta this season. It’s hard to see past Liverpool though. Their only defeat this calendar year has been a 1-0 reverse to Inter Milan last midweek which ultimately was meaningless as the Reds progressed in the Champions League anyway.
With so much on the line for the Reds 10/11 feels like a fair price and is worth taking on.
The turmoil surrounding Chelsea off the field continues but so far it’s not affected the players on the pitch. The Blues travel to Lille with a two-goal lead to defend and it’s unlikley they’ll slip up. The French champions’ form has improved in the last few weeks but they’re a massive 22 points behind PSG in sixth place and a shadow of the team that wrestled the title away from the Parisiens last season.
The Blues have kept 17 clean sheets across 32 Premier and Champions League matches (53.1) this season and another would do them nicely tonight. Lille have scored just seven in their last eight and four of those came against 16th placed Clermont so another Chelsea clean sheet appeals at 11/8.
