Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Australian A-League and there’s a match that stands out to me for goals.
Melbourne City vs Macarthur
🇦🇺 A-League
⏰ Wednesday 9th March, 08:05
Melbourne City will look to regain top spot in the A-League, as they host Macurthur at AAMI Park. The hosts are currently 2nd, three points behind Western United, whilst the visitors are 4th, only seven points behind their upcoming opponents, despite playing two games fewer.
After a slow start to the season which saw Melbourne City win just three of their opening nine A-League matches (W3-D4-L2), the reigning champions have gone on to win five of their last seven (W5-D1-L1) to see them climb up the table. It looked like being six last time out, but despite racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening half-hour, they could only draw 2-2 with lowly Perth Glory, highlighting their defensive vulnerabilities. Former Hearts defender Patrick Kisnorbo has saw his side concede in 14/16 in the league, conceding two or more in eight of those, including in five of their last six at home. City have also scored in 14/16 of their league matches and are the A-League’s top-scorers, finding the back of the net on 33 occasions.
Macarthur saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end last time out, as they lost 3-1 away to fellow Melbourne side, Melbourne Victory. Ante Milicic’s side have now kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 matches in the league, conceding on multiple occasions in seven of those. Macaurthur have conceded 22 goals in their opening 14 A-League fixtures, with 14 of those coming in their last away from home. Macarthur have found the back of the net in all bar-one of their league matches so far this season, scoring in all eight away from home. Only league leaders Adelaide United and upcoming opponents Melbourne City have outscored Macarthur, with The Bulls finding the back of the net 22 times.
Bet of the Day
Melbourne City can go top of the A-League with a win, but face a tough task against 4th-placed Macarthur. Both sides have been scoring plenty of goals so far this season, finding the back of the net 55 times between them in their 30 combined matches. These two also rarely fail to find the back of the net, scoring in 27/30 of their collective matches and they’ll be confident of scoring once again, particularly as neither side are particularly tight at the back. Patrick Kisnorobo’s hosts have kept just two clean sheets this season, whilst The Bulls have conceded in nine of their last 10. Given both teams records at both ends of the pitch, I think we’ll see at least three goals here with both sides contributing in what should be an open and entertaining affair.
