Football Bet of the Day: Cherries and Trotters to blow away their opponents

07/03/2022 admin

Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the English Championship and League 1 and I like the look of two sides at home to score at least twice against their struggling opponents.

AFC Bournemouth vs Peterborough United

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Championship

⏰ Tuesday 8th March, 19:45

Bournemouth will look to move back into the automatic promotion places, as they host struggling Peterborough at the Vitality. The hosts come into this in 3rd, one point behind 2nd-placed Huddersfield Town, whilst the visitors are bottom, eight points from safety.

Despite taking the lead, Bournemouth suffered their first league defeat since the end of January, as they lost 2-1 away to Preston North End. Prior to that defeat at Deepdale, the Cherries had won four in-a-row in the Championship, scoring eight goals. Bournemouth boast one of the best home records in the division, with them collecting 30 points from a possible 45 (W9-D3-L3), an average of two points per game. Only league leaders Fulham have outscored Bournemouth this season, with Scott Parker’s men scoring 52 goals in their opening 32 matches, with 31 of those goals coming at home.

Peterborough lost once again last time out, as they were comfortably defeated 3-0 by Huddersfield Town. Grant McCann’s side have failed to win in the Championship since the 11th of December, and have lost 10 and drawn two of their last 12 matches in the league. Peterborough have the worst away record in the Championship, collecting just four points from their 18 matches (W1-D1-L16). No side has conceded more goals in the Championship than Peterborough, with The Posh conceding 69 goals, with 48 of those coming in their travels.

Bolton Wanderers vs Morecambe

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 League 1

⏰ Tuesday 8th February, 20:00

Bolton will look to continue their late push to reach the playoffs, as they host relegation-threatened Morecambe at the University of Bolton Stadium. The hosts come into this seven points outside the playoffs, whilst the visitors are in 21st and are two points from safety.

Bolton bounced back from their 2-0 defeat away to 3rd-placed MK Dons, as they comfortably dispatched of struggling Gillingham 0-3, meaning Ian Evatt’s side have now won nine of their last 12 matches in League 1 (W9-D1-L2). Bolton have been strong at home in recent months, losing just one of their last 11 at the University of Bolton Stadium (W8-D2-L1), winning each of their last six. Only Oxford United and Rotherham United have scored more goals at home this season than Bolton’s tally of 35, with The Trotters scoring on multiple occasions in 10 of their last 11 on home turf.

Morecambe suffered a 2-0 defeat away to promotion-chasing Plymouth Argyle last time out, extending their winless run in League 1 to eight matches (W4-D4-L0). Morecambe have the joint-worst away record in League 1, collecting just nine points from a possible 51 (W2-D3-L12). Morecambe have recorded just five clean sheets from their opening 35 matches in League 1 this season, with just one of those coming away from home. Only second-bottom Doncaster Rovers have conceded more goals than Morecambe, with Derek Adams side conceding 66 goals, with 37 of those coming on their travels.

Bet of the Day

Bournemouth know they will leapfrog Huddersfield Town into 2nd-place in the Championship with a win and they should get it against bottom side Peterborough United. The Posh have lost 10 of their last 12 matches in the Championship, as well as 16/18 away from home and I can’t see them getting anything against a Bournemouth side that have W9-D3-L3 at home this season. Scott Parker’s side have scored a brace in 12/15 at home this season and should manage another one against the Championship’s leakiest defence. Bolton come into this in fine form, winning nine of their last 12, as well as each of their last six at home and should be too strong for a Morecambe side winless in eight and who have the joint-worst away record in the division. Ian Evatt’s hosts have scored two or more in 10 of their last 11 at home and look a good bet to do the same once again against a Morecambe side with the second-worst defensive record in League 1.

  • AFC Bournemouth to Score 2+
  • Bolton Wanderers to Score 2+
  • Double Pays 6/5 (William Hill)
