Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the Swiss top-tier once again and there’s the match that I reckon has the potential for goals.

Basel will look to go level on points with second-placed Young Boys, as they host St. Gallen at St .Jakob-Park. The hosts are currently in third, whilst the visitors are lying in mid-table in sixth.
Basel’s slim title hopes were more or less ended last time out, as they lost 4-2 away at champions-elect Zürich. That’s now back-to-back away defeats for Guille Abascal’s side, and they’ll be glad to be back at home where they’ve lost just once this season (W5-D5-L1). Basel have found the back of the net in all bar-one of their 23 league matches, scoring on 50 occasions. Clean sheets have been an issue for RotBlau, with them keeping just six in the league so far this season, with just two of those coming at home.
St. Gallen kept up their impressive start to the new year, as they defeated Grasshopper 2-0 last time out, to make it four wins from their last five in the league (W4-D1-L0). St. Gallen are the fourth-highest scorers in the Swiss Super League, finding the back of the net on 39 occasions, with 17 of those coming in their last five matches. St. Gallen have found the back of the net in 19 of their 23 matches this season, with Peter Zeidler’s side failing to score just once on their travels. St. Gallen have recorded just three clean sheets in the league so far this season and have the third-worst defensive record, conceding 44 goals.
Bet of the Day
Basel’s title hopes were more or less ended after their 4-2 defeat away to Zürich on Sunday, but can go level on points with second-place Young Boys with a win, but face a tough task as they come up against an in-form St. Gallen side. Peter Zeidler’s visitors have won four and drawn one of their five matches since the winter break, scoring 17 goals and I expect them to get on the scoresheet against a Basel side that’s conceded in 9/11 at home this season. St. Gallen do struggle defensively, recording just three clean sheets and conceding 44 goals, therefore it would be a surprise if they kept out a Basel side that’s scored in 22/23 in the league this season. Given both sides have scored 89 goals between them this season and their struggles defensively, I’m happy to add in over 2.5 goals along with both teams to get on the scoresheet in what should be an open match at St. Jakob-Park.
