Liverpool and Chelsea contest the first major piece of silverware at Wembley this afternoon and the Blues will be glad the spotlight is on the team on the pitch.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have had a tough month, taking in the Premier League, FA Cup, World Club Championship and Champions League but have come through it just about unscathed. The squad must go to the well once more at Wembley but Liverpool could be a step too far for them.
The Reds haven’t won a domestic cup for a decade but the bookies rate them 4/6 favourites to lift the trophy and end that run today. Liverpool look relentless at the moment and although this tournament is the least important of the trophies they’re chasing they’ll still be all out to win here and if they’re on their A-game they should do so at 5/4.
Celtic and Rangers enjoyed very different fortunes in Europe in midweek and that could have implications for them today and the run-in.
Ange Postecoglou chose to rest five first-teamers in Norway on Thursday and paid the price with a humbling exit from the Europa Conference League. That means his chips are all-in on reclaiming the Premiership title and if they leave Easter Road with anything less than three points then the voices questioning his apparent surrender in the Arctic Circle will grow louder.
So we should expect the Hoops to come out the traps quickly in today’s lunchtime kick-off. They raced in to 3-0 lead inside half an hour on their last trip to Leith and early goals could be a feature today. Take your pick between a goal before 27:00 at 5/6 or Over 1.5 first half goals at 13/8 at Bet365
And of course we can’t ignore Celtic corners. Bet365 are offering a generous 11/8 on on Over 3.5 first half Celtic corner and regular readers will be well aware of the stats behind that.
At Ibrox, it could be a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’. The Gers’ 6-4 aggregate win over Dortmund had Ibrox rocking but sometimes things are a little flat after so much energy and emotion has been expended in midweek.
Motherwell will look to frustrate the champions and will focus on their 1-1 draw on the southside of Glasgow earlier in the season rather than the 6-1 drubbing the took at Fir Park in October.
Rangers should get the win but Well can catch them out a little and get themselves on the scoresheet. BTTS is handily priced at 11/8.
Well done to The Caddy who’s weekly NAP won yet again, inside 36 holes, to maintain his incredible 100% NAP record in 2022. Followers will also be cheering 16/1 shot Daniel Berger who holds a three-shot lead going in to Sunday’s final round. Let’s hope he can get the job done for another winner for our prolific golf tipster who is the best in the business.
