Champions League, Premier League, Championship, Scottish Premiership. Carlsberg don’t do Wednesday nights but if they did…
Neither Atletico Madrid or Manchester United are enjoying the season they’d have liked, trailing in their leagues by 15 and 17 points respectively, so their best shot at glory could be in the Champions League. But even at this stage in the competition they’re only rated at 40/1 (Atleti) and 18/1 (United) outsiders to lift the trophy.
It’s been a decade since Atleti finished outside the top three in Spain and they’ve a battle on their hands just to finish top four and secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. They’ve already dropped more points (33) than they did when winning the title last season (28) and things went from bad to worse when captain Koke picked up an injury at the weekend which rules him out of tonight’s clash.
As for United, they’re on a run of just one defeat in 14 but have failed to really impress more often than not. Sure they’re capable of winning against a disheveled Atleti side but you can never be certain which United will show up. The 21/10 is tempting but if anyone can guide his team to win a one-off battle it’s Diego Simeone.
Ajax have been absolutely flying this season. They topped Group C without breaking sweat and lead the Eredivisie by five points, having only conceded five goals in 23 matches. This side could be on the brink of something special and are lively outsiders for the trophy at 14/1.
Opponents Benfica took advantage of Barcelona’s ‘annus horribilis’ to sneak in to the last 16 on just eight points and a -2 goal difference in Group E. Nine goals conceded in two matches againt Bayern Munich exposed their frailties at the elite level and would be surprising qualifiers from this tie at 4/1.
The Dutch side are 3/4 to win tonight and 4/6 to score two or more. Combining both pays even money on a Bet365 BetBuilder.
In the Premier League Liverpool have the chance to turn up the heat on Manchester City with a win at home against Leeds United. The Reds took a while to get going against Norwich on Saturday but still racked up three goals and can do so again against a Leeds side that have shipped 10 in their last 3 and conceded 28 in 7 games against top six sides.
Over 2.5 Liverpool goals pays just 4/7 though so try backing Over 1.5 goals in the first half at 5/6.
It would be very Spurs-y to follow up Saturday’s brilliant 3-2 win at the Etihad with a defeat to Burnley. The Clarets’ 3-0 win at Brighton was far and away their best result this season and they’ll be in bouyant mood. Bear mind they lost just 1-0 to Liverpool previoulsy and drew with Man Utd, Watford and Arsenal in their three games prior to that. 18/5 on the home win is a bit on the skinny side but Burnley at even money on the Double Chance market is worth taking on.
In the Championship it could be a case of how many for Fulham at home to Peterborough. Eight of the Cottagers home wins have seen them score three or more and they’re 8/11 to do so again. But like the Liverpool game it could pay to get on early goals and take the 11/10 on there being at least two goals in the first 45.
Finally, a big shout out to our racing tipster Rizzel who’s trio of tips all won yesterday with some punters such as @scattercash picking up a brilliant 63/1 treble on all three selections. Great work Rizzel!
