There are two more Champions League last-16 first leg ties on Wednesday evening and Liverpool will be aiming to win a seventh straight game in all competitions when they head to Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, in Austria, Bayern Munich head a couple of hours or so east as they cross the border to take on Salzburg, with that game also kicking off at 20:00.
Nerazzurri Not Firing on All Cylinders
Two European heavyweights clash at the San Siro, with Inter Milan hosting Liverpool. Three-time winners Inter bundled through a Group D that also included Real Madrid and giant-killers Sheriff Tiraspol and are still to really fall back in love with the Champions League since returning in 2018-19.
The Nerazzurri have fallen in the group stages in the last three seasons and making the knockouts represents a mini-breakthrough.
They are 13/5 to win on Wednesday and the feeling is they will need to take something back to Anfield for the return game on March 8.
Simone Inzaghi’s men have taken just a point from their last two Serie A games, losing the derby 2-1 with Milan and drawing 1-1 against Napoli to lose top spot in Serie A.
Liverpool are still to lose in 2022 and most recently battled to a 1-0 win at Burnley on Sunday.
Trailing Manchester City by nine points in the Premier League, albeit with a game in hand, the Reds have an EFL Cup final to look forward to, while they are also into the fifth round of the FA Cup.
After easing past AC Milan, Atletico and Porto in the pools, a seventh Champions League crown is 9/2 and they are 11/10 to triumph in Italy, as they did the last time they played Inter away from home when a Fernando Torres goal handed them a 1-0 win in March 2008.
Jota Player Diogo Has Become
Mohamed Salah is his team’s top scorer in this season’s Champions League, netting seven times, but the man who gives Liverpool’s attack their shape is Diogo Jota.
The Portuguese has improved immeasurably since moving to Merseyside from Wolves in 2020 and has moved ahead of Roberto Firmino in the pecking order.
Jota was rotated for the Burnley win, playing the final 23 minutes off the bench, but has scored five times in his last four starts and seems a man in form.
The 25-year-old scored his only goal in this competition against Atletico Madrid and is 17/10 to net at anytime in Italy.
Look Out for Lewandowski
The other clash sees Bayern face Salzburg and having won 6-2 at the Red Bull Arena in November 2020, will be confident of achieving a similar result, with them 7/2 to go all the way.
Julian Nagelsmann saw his side lose 4-2 to Bochum over the weekend but sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table and demonstrated their pedigree in striding through an awkward Group E featuring Benfica, Barcelona and Dynamo Kiev.
Inevitably, Robert Lewandowski has led their charge, netting nine times already in the competition. The brilliant Pole scored twice in last season’s game in Austria and is 27/20 to score two or more.
Salzburg Should Score
That said, as great as Lewandowski has been, his defensive colleagues have not been as convincing, keeping just one clean sheet in their last five Bundesliga games.
An away win is just 4/11 so an away win and both to score could be the answer at 23/20 and would make sense considering Salzburg scored in five of their six Group G games.
Both Karim Adeyemi and Noah Okafor netted three times in the opening round and are 21/10 and 5/2, respectively, in the anytime goalscorer market.
