There’s an afternoon of jumps action in store from Catterick on Monday, with some quality fare on offer from the North Yorkshire layout.
They get under way at 1.00pm, with the final race set to go off at 3.50pm. Ground conditions are forecast to be ‘Good to soft, soft in places’ and our tipster has a race-by-race look at the Catterick action.
1.00 – Love Racing Handicap Hurdle (2m3f)
EAST STREET made a winning start for Sue Smith at Wetherby (2m, good) in November and was only denied the follow-up under a penalty at Newcastle by a progressive sort getting 14lb from him (won again next time).
On the basis of that run, an opening mark of 108 could be lenient, especially with this increased trip likely a positive for him now.
Selection: East Street @ 5/1
1.30 – Jumping For Joy On Racing TV Novices’ Handicap Chase (2m3f)
After twice winning around Sedgefield (2m3½f, good to soft/good) in November, taking his record over fences to 3-5, it’s probable that something was ailing CILLUIRID when he was pulled up at the same venue in early December as his effort petered out very rapidly.
He’s had a nice break since and, if all is well today, he can resume progress for Tim Easterby and champion jockey-elect Brian Hughes.
Selection: Cillurid @ 4/1
2.05 – Meetings That Matter On Racing TV Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (3m1½f)
After opening her account at Exeter last month when stepped up to this trip Miss Fairfax is the one to beat in this follow-up attempt.
However, LETTHETRUTHBEKNOWN also made a pleasing impression when scoring on hurdles bow at Uttoxeter in December (2m6f, good to soft), form that has been franked by the third and fourth scoring since.
Oliver Greenall’s mare is open to plenty progress and, at the bigger odds, is preferred here.
Selection: Letthetruthbeknown @ 6/4
2.40 – Happy 50th Dawn Callaghan Love You Handicap Hurdle (1m7½f)
A few of these arrive on the back of good efforts in defeat last time, but MICK MAESTRO is the lone last-time-out winner remaining in the six-runner field after Timberman came out on raceday.
He’d essentially had two thankless task earlier this season, in the Greatwood at Cheltenham in November then the New Year’s Day Musselburgh race won by Champion Hurdle-bound improver Tommy’s Oscar.
Back in calmer waters here last month he took advantage of a reduced mark and he should go well having gone up 5lb for that win.
Selection: Mick Maestro @ 7/2
3.15 – Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase (3m1f)
MAROWN was a very useful novice last season for Nicky Richards, winning at Ayr (2m4½f, heavy) and Wetherby (3m, good to soft) amidst a run of form figures that read 31221 before he was well held in the Novices’ Champion Handicap Chase at the Scottish Grand National Festival in April back at Ayr.
He’s undergone a wind op in his down-time and is eased to a mark of 135 here, while he also has a positive record coming back from a lay=off.
Selection: Marown @ 7/2
3.50 – Racing Again 1st March Open NH Flat Race (1m7½f)
The form of YOU WEAR IT WELL‘s second around Ludlow on debut last month has already been boosted by the winner Mullenbeg, who easily followed up in Listed company at Cheltenham on Trials Day for Milton Harris.
With improvement likely and the fact that Jamie Snowden team have sent out three winners from seven starters lately, this daughter of Midnight Legend is taken to go one spot better now.
Selection: You Wear It Well @ 5/2
